Seems like you can't move a mile without having a random encounter.
The random encounter rate is nowhere near that high, normally. It's almost as if you're incredibly unlucky or something. Get outdoorsmen to both move faster and get less bad encounters (and more good ones). You can find books for that most everywhere.

Unless Vault City had some awesome stuff, in which case I could always change.
It has very awesome stuff. But its not for you.

Also, what difficulty are you playing on? Normal, I assume?

Also, I'd actually recommend hitting Modoc next - Reno is awesome, but its a tough place.

Okay, maybe it's more like every three miles or something. Still, freaking annoying at the best of times, though stealing from moonshiners did give me a lot of loot. I was going to increase outdoormen next level. 'Spending' a bit on the books is a good idea too.

Which is what (almost) everybody has been telling me so far.

Yep, normal. Haven't touched the difficulty settings at all.

Hmm... Where is Modoc? And how close is it to Redding?

EDIT: Never mind. Missed the caravan to New Reno by a day. I eventually hopped on the one leading to Vault City. I'm now an official citizen, and I managed to earn $150 bucks while doing so.

Wow. Citizenship is hard to get! Anyways, VC has some fun quests, mostly to do with the neighbors although you can do some interesting stuff with their vault computers with high science...

Modoc is smack dab between the Den and Vault City. You usually stumble across it on the way (intended progression seems to be that way, anyways), but I'm not sure if anyone will bother pointing the place out to you otherwise.

Oh Fallout 2. I am really jealous now. Playing it for the first time, heh... It's an unique experience.

Tape ETC-03

Titthal's favourite table is nice and sturdy, like the kind they butcher meat on. Besides being covered in blood, dents and gashes, it also has three human teeth embedded into it, and a part of a human ear nailed to it. She's not a very nice person if you don't pay her on time.

My plans for the next turn consist of screwing around with the citizens as much as possible before heading out to explore the location directly north of it. Whatever it is. That should be enough content for another update. If not, I'll head to Modoc.

I should take more screenshots. Of buildings and scenery at least. I thought I took at least one of the casino/city hall. Maybe FRAPS wasn't working or something.

Also: Who the hell was that in the power armour, and how can I take it from him? Or her. Or it.

That tall gentleman in the tall power armor is of no concern. I'm sure he was completely random and you'll never see him again. You should probably just forget about it. Nothing to see here, move along.

So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

Tape ETC-04

Spoiler: 'Gecko' (click to show/hide)

Have you ever sat in a really boring event, and decide that now would be a good time to update your LP/Forum game, while nobody needs/cares about you? Well that happened to me today. Perhaps spending three hours typing it up should have set off alarm bells in my head about its length. Ah well, enjoy, but don't expect anything as long in the future. Today was a one off type thing (hopefully).

If anyone wants to suggest an name for the Highwayman (Hahahah! It's finally mine! YES!) *Ahem*, then I'm all ears. It's quite a swell piece of engineering. Also, I bought some spare cells from Smitty, so I think I have enough fuel to reach Vault 15, but definitively not back unless I pick up more fuel along the way. Obviously just gunning for Vault 15 now is kinda stupid, so I'm wondering where to go next exactly. Modoc seems to be a good choice, but New Reno could be a lot of fun.

Pictures will be coming up shortly. I just want to post this text first before I work on them.

EDIT: For the record, Titthal's grandmother was one of Secondus's lovers, before ditching him to join Tertus in founding Arroyo. Just so we're clear about linage and whatnot here. I also changed Gordon's name to Nicholas, because I forgot his name can. Needless to say, I'm too lazy to change it back.

EDIT2: You save a couple thousand people, fix a nuclear reactor, pave a nice and easy road for future generations, and all of the sudden you're a hero. I have 114+ karma right now. Meh. It was either get the karma, or follow Vault City's xenophobia. I picked the best of two options, I think.

Maybe you could just go into Vault City at a later date with a squad wielding plasma rifles and clean the place of the filth?

Also, a nice name for the car would be “Lady of the wastes”. Even though it’s a highwayman...

Well, all machines are female or something, right? So technically 'Lady of the Wastes' could work.

Also: Where the hell should I go next? I'm stuck between choosing Modoc or (finally) heading over to New Reno. Any ideas of which one I should do first?

Modoc is kind of a newb area, anyways. Maybe worth hitting just for fun, but in character I couldn't imagine you sticking around long at this point.

New Reno, though, so very much potential!

Also, I am so unbelievably happy this is updating again. ^_^

Modoc is interesting for two peculiar characteristics. 1: you can get a good chunk of negative karma and be a real mean spirit (if you feel like it, if I remember it correctly, this is one karma-related outcome that actually makes sense).
2: You get to

New Reno, on the other hand, provides ample opportunity to meet idiots and screw them over, and also get negative karma.

Hmm. No real advice from me at this point. I don't remember Modoc too well.

Enjoying the updates, though!

Modoc does provide the opportunity to get a very... "special" companion, though.

Err, what exactly does it do? The link seems to suggest that it ups the resolution, but I can't find any real specifics.

EDIT: I'll probably be heading to Modoc next. The karma (de)boost will probably come in useful for New Reno.
