Can I be China?  I know the infection starts there, that's why I want to do it.  Also, would it be okay if I actually act like someone with a brain, instead of Umbrella Corporation?

If so...

Lessen the cover-ups, continue with the quarantines.  Total evacuation, I want no one else in those villages and towns.  Any infected and those unwilling ti cooperate will be shot.  Reveal some of the information to only my closest allies, ask for just a bit of help right now.

Increase disease, space travel and nuclear fusion research. Monitor and increase diplomatic relations with China and U.S.A. Very carefully begin to detain/"interview" people traveling in from Asia, you can never be too careful.

Edit: how will non-player countries work? Will they be controlled by you, will there be dice rolls for reactions to events? etc

I suppose that I could come in as the good old United States of America.

Turn One: President Strife (I) comes into power
Platform
-Decrease Partisan Politics at the Federal Level
     -Begin balancing the budget
          -The "Difficult Deal"
                -Cut to entitlement spending
                -Reworked tax code
-Slight increase in tariffs on countries with massive trade imbalances
                -Continued spending for NASA
                -Decreasing Foreign Aid
     -Global Disengagement policy
          -Military drawn down
          -Public policy of non-intervention
-Except for Gross Human Rights Violations, Preemptive war, and UN coalitions
-Specific pledge of protection for Korea, Taiwan.
          -Iraq departure continues
          -Afghanistan security hand-off continues

In response to China's saber rattling, USN Battle group deployed to the Republic of China. President Strife utilizes his honey-moon period with the press, as well as genuine seeming fracture within the country and Congress to attempt to ram through legislation to allow Congress to muck about with Entitlement funding.

Examine diplomatic channels with Canada.

"How is it going, Canada? It's been far too long since I last got up to Winnipeg. I'd like to reaffirm the fact that we're damn well best buds, you know? While NAFTA certainly has it's problems, I think that the trade and tourism between the US and and Canada is almost always for the best. What can we do for you?"

Also, attempt to get a better pan-Nato intelligence review going, especially dealing with threat cells that have the possibility to spread. Obviously, it'd still be up to the home country what to do with their own problems, but the free flow of information is beneficial, provided it stays only in the upper levels of each countries intelligence apparatus.

((OOC: Err, I think we need some clearer rules about how we do actions. Some of us are posting singular actions, some of us are posting multiple actions.))

((Yeah, I was planning on playing America semi-realistically. That's all pretty suitable just for the main planks on Pres. Strife's platform. If we want to limit one action per country, I guess that I could do some rules lawyering and claim 53 actions, one each for every state, plus each branch of the federal government.

Also, when we find out, we're going to a be taking a very dim view on Australia's actions, and will take immediate action when we find out about Japan, considering that nuclear mechs clearly violate the rules governing their JSDF, besides the NNPT. ))

Im joining. So tempted to be Madagascar...

I pick...the glorious country of Cuba!

Actions:
  • Hire specialist in genetic engineering.
  • Create labs to study genetic engineering. (Project Ciao)
  • Produce more disease-immune crops and livestock in preparation.
  • Prepare research into easily constructed but tough plastics. (Project Castillo)
  • Prepare research into full-body armour. (Project Caballerio)
  • Give every soldier a melee weapon. (Program Medieval)
  • Draft a disease prevention program. This to make people more knowledgeable on how diseases work and how to prevent them.
  • Tighten exports and imports.
  • Meet with the intellectuals of the country and see if they have any ideas on what to do.

You can do as many actions in a turn as you want, but if you more than what your country's industry can handle (be realistic here), well... The work is simply slower. I'll handle non-player countries, but you can still support them by giving them troops, weapons... Watch out about metagaming (espacially Australia ;)) because for now nobody knows anything about what is happening in China. If you start a communist project like Janissary, or something outrageous like Autarch, well... You'll soon have a revolution to deal with.

I'll do a turn for every one except you, Taricus; do you really want to keep going with these two projects? If you do, I'll roll a d6 every turn and the first one or two you'll get will start a revolution.

Turn 2
4 months after Case Zero

Spoiler: Current map (click to show/hide)

Many outbreaks in China are controled and the number of Zs goes down. However, a first outbreak is seen outside of China, started by a civilian fleeing the country. He was not taken by the chinese forces, and managed to cross the border unseen. For now, this outbreak is unnoticed. A few countries close their borders to China, mainly those who have received information. Around the world...

-The labs in Cuba are still under construction
-Body armor researches are slowly advancing
-Program Medieval is slowly started, although your economy will suffer from this new cost
-The USN battle group in China is not shown any of the outbreaks, but is allowed to remain close to the border of Taïwan.
-Most lower scale projects are on their way

What do you do?

Continue curbstomping the zombies.  Send the best special forces units this massive country can muster, make sure they're prepared for anything.  Start research on this plague, use whatever the government of China has at its disposal.
