Yep. Great combo, although I find that maxing out red hearts isn't always the best idea. Nothing makes me sadder than having empty hearts but also not being able to pick up soul hearts.

I find the pure range upgrades to be the new shot speed upgrade of boss rewards.

I still pick them up, but I'd rather get anything else from beating the bosses.

Man, I just unlocked Azazel and he's SUPER op. First time I've even seen the boss rush and I beat it super easily with him without getting any particularly good items even. Best character.

I find this game works really well in quick breaks when working on other things, less so when more stuff is unlocked, but still. Enjoying it pretty thoroughly.

Just had a similar experience. First run with him and got a Satan kill fairly easily. Was touch and go for a bit when I mistakenly traded exploration for a load of health (I never learn). Luckily his attack mostly works well with my play style (always trying to stay close to my target).

Yeah, Guillotine is shit. It's supposed to effectively add a missile shield, but what it does instead is constantly confuse your brain which is used to tears coming from Isaac's body. I also tend to focus too much on the head as where I think my body should be, and make all sorts of mistakes. My favorite though is when the head orbits through a wall or rock or something, and if you've got explosive tears, you blow yourself up.

I had Mom's Knife last night and had Guillotine show up. I was really tempted to see how it functioned with it, but decided I'd rather have a fighting chance instead.

I think I found the most OP combination in the game. Tammys head + brimstone + homing.

Every room took about 0.1 seconds to clear. Here is my best attempt at getting a screenshot before everything dies. Satan took longer cause he has invuln between stages.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Icing on the cake: infestation shot made every enemy turn into a blue spider on death. I had a few hundred.

I am 90 hours in and unlocked The Lost (though I only learned about it through spoilers).

Doing Lost runs is absurd. I understand that this is hardmode-cum-hardmode but come on.

Imagine your first time running through with ??? who didn't have red hearts, but at least ??? can pick up soul hearts, eternal hearts, and even get red hearts with +hp pickups.

The Lost can't get any kind of health pick ups at all, all hits are 1-hit-dead (unless you have something like the Holy Shield, which negates first damage, or something like the Infamous mask). So not only do you have 0 margin for error but probably half the items in the game are completely useless to you (anything that gives health, or reduces damage, or has an effect on taking damage).

I am more than 200 deaths in and have killed Mom maybe twice, but both those runs died during the boss rush room - let alone whether I could survive It Lives (who is, in my opinion and depending on the damage potential for the run, harder than Isaac, ??? or the Lamb).

It is incredibly frustrating and I'm this close to just giving up on getting Platinum God, because you have to kill everything short of megasatan on hard mode with him to 100% the achievements. Fuck that.

IMO it should maybe have some health (maybe starting with just a half container), but always be hidden, and all +hp/soul/evil pick ups provide only a half heart container rather than full one. Or have only eternal hearts provide a half heart container. Just... something to give you a greater margin of error that isn't one single item.

I thought ? ? ? only got soul hears, with +hp pickups instead giving him a equal number of soul hearts instead of the containers?

Dead baby != The Lost. The Lost runs are supposed to be hard. But you start with flying and get free devil deals. Just gotta dodge.

You're right, I was confusing ??? and Azazel. Azazel also starts without red hearts but can gain them with +hp. ??? only gets soul hearts with +hp.

Precisely why I called it quits before starting Lost runs. It just doesn't sound at all like an interesting way to play and would probably make me hate the game in the long run. I'll just remain happily oblivious of the existence of The Lost and wait for the next expansion. Though there's two tiers of Platinum God and the other doesn't need anything regarding The Lost, but both still require farming Meat Boy/Bandage Girl...

The Meat Boy/Bandage Girl thing is poorly designed, to the extent that it's much easier to get infinite spacebar item and then use the Monster Manual endlessly than it is to get either of them legitimately (this used to work, not sure if it was patched out).

Ludovico + Magnetic Tears + Flight = Fly over a rock and kick back as bosses and large packs sit there and take damage, twitching helplessly.

Bit of a necro, but I got into Rebirth a while ago. I love the game, it's pretty damn addictive. Do have a few frustrations though:

1. Time sinks. I don't want to spend 20 minutes in the arcade. If my luck is high enough that I can get 99/99/99 items, full soul hearts, pretty fly x3, etc. then I feel compelled to do that. I also don't want to feel compelled to break every single damn destructible. Spending another 20 mins shooting inanimate objects because they have a low chance to drop useful items is such a bore - as is walking around a cleared floor so I can gather hearts I left sitting around to pay the demon beggar or blood bank. I know these can't all be fixed, but things could definitely be done.

2. Pickups that damage you. I'm looking at you, Bob's Brain.

3. All three of the main endgame bosses (past Mom, before the secrety ones) are projectile based. Isaac in particular. This makes them pretty trivial - half the chars that get that far will have three orbitals, and that alone makes you nearly impervious to all of these bosses. It's just disappointing that finding the lategame boss rooms are more dangerous than fighting the bosses.

4. Some enemies. Walking Hosts can be an absolute nightmare earlier on, Para-Bites are often unavoidable, as are Masks on the more mazey room setups, and Homunculus/Begotten basically never detach from the wall so I don't even understand the point of those. Just seems like some of these weren't well thought out.

I guess thats all the venting I have to do so far.

IIRC luck has nothing to do with any of the things in the arcade.
