Only if you do something that costs hearts, and if you do so then it 100% guarantees you won't get an angel room, unless you have bible tract in which case there's still a small chance.

Doublepost, but, Anti-gravity Tears and Mom's Knife do not stack. Part of me knows it'd be an unholy abomination of OP, but the other half of me is like "Uhm, yes? Give it? Give it naow?"
That 'control your tears' upgrade does in fact stack with moms nice though, and boy oh boy is it great.

Bob's Brain is super obnoxious too. I won't even pick it up when I see it, not without Pyromaniac. Because who doesn't like a thing exploding on a dude who gets struck at point blank range, and dealing damage to you. Sort of the same with BBF. Less obnoxious than Bob's Brain, but when it is a collision course with an enemy standing right next to you, it's as much of liability as it is a help.
Jesus, northenlion and you would get on perfectly.

Does anyone else have the occasional problem of keyboard input sometimes seizing up and moving/firing in the last-pressed of each for a couple seconds? When it happens, the keyboard is entirely unresponsive - I continuing moving/firing even when I release keys, and escape/alt-tab/etc don't work either. Has happened about six times in the seven hours I've put in so far.

I thought maybe it was my controller acting up (the left stick is slowing dying) but it happened even after I'd unplugged it. Doesn't happen in other games - though, to be fair, the only other game where I'm constantly pressing wasd/arrows is BoI:Classic, and I haven't played that in a year. I'm not 100% sure if it's a keyboard issue or a bug in the game. Never happened before but could just be the keyboard dying.

Hasn't directly resulted in a death yet but easily could, not to mention messing up when attempting some of the ironman unlocks ("beat [area] without being hit").

I can't really say. My keyboard input, across multiple keyboards, really likes to get stuck on the last direction I was holding until I tap it again.

Man. I just got this game a couple of day ago. It's really fun. Although man, after almost beating Satan on my second run I decided to bump it up to hard mode and totally got my ass kicked.

What do you guys think of as the 'default' mode?

I've seen similar behavior in the form of auto-turning in other games, but in those cases the rest of the keyboard was still functional.

.

And yes, I haven't tried hard mode yet either. I unlocked everything in BoI:Classic but by now I forget what all needs to be done. For now I'm just been grinding through killing mom, satan, and (when I luck out and manage to get into the cathedral) isaac with each character.

I've found the only part of it that's quite a bit harder is the lack of drops. The increased monster difficulty and stuff doesn't seem to matter so much, and although the drops normally don't seem to matter so much, it can be absolutely killer going though with no bombs, no money, and no keys. In normal mode it doesn't seem like much, and it seems like if you get lucky with the drops from bosses and treasure rooms it doesn't seem like it would matter much in hard mode.

Ultimately although on a level by level, room by room basis, hard mode isn't really harder then normal mode it seems much harder to 'get the ball rolling' so to speak, and the effects of bad luck and bad decisions are magnified in hard mode. So it seems to me at least.

It sorta surprised me, I thought it would be really hard core.

I, and most streamers/youtubers, really really dislike hard mode. It has way fewer drops, slightly more champion enemies, bosses don't drop any hearts, and champions aren't guaranteed to drop consumables.

Basically, it sucks, and not in a hard way. It's not more challenging, it's just more grindy. There's nothing fun about being denied the ability to do stuff. It's slightly more trying on your dodging skills and knowledge of enemy patterns, but it's not harder.

Re: Normal mode.

I haven't tried Hard Mode yet, but Normal Mode in Rebirth feels somewhat easier than the old game. Generally my old average was like 1 win in 10. I'm closer to 1 in 6 in Rebirth in normal mode. Room drops like keys and hearts and stuff in Rebirth are (usually) plentiful, enough to at least get every treasure room and try to find the secret room. Money seems a lot more plentiful, but maybe that's a part side effects of all the new stuff to destroy that drops stuff, and the really broken money maker combos. Also probably because you need to feed the shop a lot of money.

Getting 4 SPACE items in one run is still pretty much the kiss of death. While all the new battery drops and items can make some way items more useful, a SPACE item is still something you can only carry one of, so it's automatically less useful than almost anything else that drops from the Treasure Rooms.

I maintain you want three things out of a BoI run:
-Damage
-Hearts
-Missile Protection and/or Damage Resistance.

If you can get two of those, you stand a chance up to the new content. Beyond that, you really need either damage resistance or just stupid amounts of damage to get through it without trouble. Or have godly damage avoidance skills.

Godly damage avoidance skills are something you really, really need. Especially for the secret character that gives all the coolest unlocks, like a 6 room charge item that rerolls everything in the room as well as your current set of gear. It's nice.

God, that sounds awful. Especially since there seems to be more negative passive items this time around. It seems like half my runs I run into that fucking cursed eye, and I pick it up like a dummy more often then not, often dooming a good run. I got it once from a room that rerolled all my gear as well.

Hmmm, I'm in a weird place with this game. I'm only missing 150 donated pennies, Purist and the Meat Boy/Bandage Girl achievements (from regular Platinum God).

And the Bandage Girl/Meat Boy thing is sort of frustrating. Getting a Book of Revelations early isn't enough, you need to get all the coin flips right too. Best way is apparently breaking the game and somehow using Monster Manuel to get them. The problem is, last night I started breaking the game with d20 and Sharp Plug and it crashed on me. I was hoping that the new version would be more resilient to crashing. Now it crashed in around the same time as the old one would.

I'm not too keen on playing with the super spoiler character and playing runs to fill up the donation machine or farm for Horseman drops doesn't feel very rewarding. After I get The Purist, I guess I'm pretty much done. I might go for everything on Hard, but it has the aforementioned problems and there's no rewards in it after Mom's Heart.

Though then again, there's another expansion in the works.

Nein, not d20. That causes crashes when you run out of trinkets for it to reroll. You need to use D6, and get wafer+sharp plug. It's almost impossible to run out of health then.

Monster manual + sharp plug is the way to go for meatboy and bandage girl. It just kinda sucks to sit in a room and mash space bar for an hour to get them.

First time with Judas in the new version and I find a converter and a dark bum on the same floor early on. By the end he had full red hearts and the rooms were littered with soul hearts.
