Huh. The wiki contradicts itself on different pages here, so you're probably right about it.

I thoght it'd be worthwhile to give this thread a bump in relation to the new upcoming expansion pack (because it's closer to that than just a DLC, even if technically it is a DLC..), called Afterbirth.

Link to Edmund's blog post.

Quote from: Edmund McMillen
The game expansion will be called Afterbirth.it will come out sometime this year (hopefully around the middle)
this expansion will feature:

- 100+ new items
- a full new game mode that will totally change how you play
- 10 new challenges
- a new playable character
- a new alternate final chapter
- new alt floors
- new game endings
- new final bosses
- tons of new bosses and enemies
- new item pickups, cards, pills, etc.
- tons of new achievements and rewards for beating the game on hard
- new co-op babies
- new transformations
- and more… :|

you could almost get lost in all that new content!it should easily extend the gameplay time by another 100-200 hours…
(also new music)

So yeah, loadsa new content to be looking forward to in a couple of months. I'm ready.

I really don't want another harder hard mode.

I like the idea of a harder hard mode. Right now you basically have to play Blue Baby for that. Hard Mode right now is fine and is a nice step up in difficulty, but it's not really enough to challenge longtime players. My only complaint is that many of the ways to make the binding of isaac harder (consumable starvation, more enemy HP, more enemies, more champions, more cursed floors) are actually more tedious than difficult & are what hard mode is now. I wouldn't mind things like taking more damage, more expensive items, or removing "popcorn" enemies (like red flies) for more actual threats, though.

Speaking of difficulty, I finished the game outside of The Lost's unlocks (and the unlocks that those lead to), but that's pretty much it for me. The Lost singlehandedly slayed any drive I had to complete this game. He is so miserably unfun and impossibly difficult that I might not give the game more than a glance until the expansion. Everything that's fun about TBoI is completely lost with this guy.

I had an insane run with the Lost a while ago. I got, among other things, Ludivico, Dead Cat and Death's Touch. Died at Isaac, though.

Earlier in this thread I swore never to touch The Lost as it's too grindy and can't use half of the items in the game and so forth. Then I tried it finally after a 6 month break.

I actually really enjoyed it. It fit my play style perfectly. I always end up taking so many devil deals on every character that I'm practically one hit away from death all the time. And as The Lost you can take all the devil deals all the time. Also you can fly, and you get less boring HP ups.

Having beaten the original Isaac up to Platinum God, Rebirth was mostly smooth sailing for the regular characters. The Lost returned the ridiculously tense runs I had beating ??? with Blue Baby in the original game. Beating Boss Rush without taking any hits with Epic Fetus really got my heart pounding.

You do need some particular items to fare with The Lost, but it's the same for every characters. Some items are crap and some are really good. It's just slightly different ones for The Lost. It seems you pretty much need 2 out of 3 of Stop Watch, Dead Cat and Holy Mantle to have a chance of getting all the way to the end. But the farther along you can get without them, the more likely you are to find them. It seems many people are playing The Lost by resetting on the Basement until they get one of those items and that does seem really frustrating and boring.  I suggest taking it as a challenge. How far can you get with this guy with average items. Don't think about the bosses, they will fall eventually. My Godhead run was me seeing how far I could get with Epic Fetus, as all the guides forbid you from using it.

P.S. I did die about 250 times in the process.

P.P.S. I still think the the Meat Boy/Bandage Girl achievements are kind of bullshit.

For the Meatboy/Bandage Girl achieves, you basically have to get sharp plug+wafer+monster manuel and use that fucker until you have them.

Grinding the Lost is pretty terrifying. Dying with Polyphemus and Quad shot kinda hurts.

Sooo, I believe that while it's no release date announcement or anything, the newest blog post deserves a bump of this thread, which covers some larger details about the new alternate game mode that's coming with the DLC. (there's also this post)

Hopefully the release date's gonna be up next week!

It's time, once again, for MOAR ISAAC.

News of the expansion totally slipped under my radar, so I just saw the preorder on Steam. Afterbirth (god he's so classy) can be pre-ordered for the sweet, satanic price of $6.66. An instant buy for me.

I don't even know if I'm going to play Greed Mode. I bought it just for the weapon combo revamp.

I can see the bouncing homing poisonous knife-laser shotgun blasts now....
