As far a siblings go, I'd err on the side of caution here. The Binding of Isaac is deeply disturbed and plays with some major societal taboos that I just don't see it wise to mock in front of such an inherently indiscreet creature as a 12 year old male.

This is true. Really in the end it's probably a safe bet to hold off on it. The game after all is about "killing mom". It could mess him up pretty good if he's impressionable and most smaller children are even if they don't look the part.

Also I'd just like to say brimstone will completely break the game if you're good at staying away from enemies. At least up to the womb.

Yeeaah..

That was kind of tasteless.

Seems like they could've just started with the whole "Isaac found a trapdoor that lead to whoknowswhere" and left it at that, but alright then.

Tasteless? Really? I thought it was pretty funny. The "religious parental abuse" satire is spot on and it ties in well with the feel of the game. Being told to kill others for God is not uncommon in our modern world, nor has it been uncommon in the past, which is sort of why the humor clicks.

I agree with deb. Less because I think it's funny, but more because it's a narrative that is written and experienced from the point of view of a depressed child- of course everything is exaggerated. We're basically playing Isaac's growth from child to adult over and over again, and watching him develop skills and scars (the powerups). Overall I think it's a pretty fantastic metaphor for a character who grows up as an outcast from everyone, including his mother.

As far a siblings go, I'd err on the side of caution here. The Binding of Isaac is deeply disturbed and plays with some major societal taboos that I just don't see it wise to mock in front of such an inherently indiscreet creature as a 12 year old male.

Question: what taboos are you talking about, exactly? I haven't encountered anything "worse" than what you'd find in Oedipus Rex or the Bible itself.

Oh yeah, I forgot to post this picture from my Isaac playthrough.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I found it amusing how big I got lol. It made dodging hard, I'm not very good at it anyways. It all worked out in the end thanks to massive firepower though 8).

You're implying that the Bible is appropriate for 12 year old kids? That's borderline child abuse.

I kid. I don't think there's anything in BoI that would disturb your average 12 year old. Most kids have thicker skin than they're given credit for. That said, I wouldn't want to be that guy who introduces a kid to the game where you can kill a teleporting fetus by crying tears of blood at it. Or, you know, the laser-firing legged vagina. Etc. Etc.

I got to sheol and nearly beat it the first time around, but alas dr fetus doesn't work so well against the boss there. Also can you still unlock the D6? I beat "It lives!" twice and nothin but a hatch down to sheol.

Flash games are notoriously inefficient and the game is basically flash in an .exe wrapper. Still a good game. You can lower the quality in the options menu or by right clicking and lowering it that way, and it should help quite a bit.

I think you need to clear sheol to get it now, going by what the achievement for the dice says anyways.

Oh, okay, good. Prolly should've checked the achievements in hindsight.

I also picked up this game with the bundle (good deal that - paid what I would've just for Isaac, and got two other games besides) and got to experience just how hilariously broken this game can be if you get a little lucky.

Picked up choclate milk, then brimstone. Insta-fire laser beams as quick as I can tap the fire button? Yes please! I blew through the next levels, got the shovel, skipped the next couple levels, then picked up Mom's bra just in time to fight Mom herself (well, Mom's leg, anyway) freezing time with the bra let me kill her before she could even attack.

Of course now all subsequent playthroughs will be forever marred by just how awesome I was this time.

I once got maxed out stats, the brother minion, the sister minion, max firespeed yellow shots that tripple shot, meatboy, kills heal, phd, max health (all bars full with hearts) by grinding the arcade, 99 bombs (keys are bomb + skeleton key), homing bombs, spectral shots, raven and whore of babylon (was playing eve).

Then the game crashed.

Brimstone alone is obscenely overpowered once you realise that 1. the game retains charge status from room to room and 2. you can switch fire direction while charging by pressing a new direction key while holding the old one (granted, these things apply for the milk as well, but they're nowhere near as useful regarding that). There's basically no reason why you shouldn't be clearing half a room the moment you step into it.

I only just noticed that Chub behaves similarly to a Dodongo. You can even leave bombs in his path and he'll eat them (I'm probably the last person to notice this). Also fought Death for the first time and he has Castlevania-homage flying scythe attacks.

Incidentally, is anyone else suffering from an issue where Eve (along with her associated items) isn't saved on quit?
