They can't.  Both sides will be taking maintenance checks the longer you're out there, because not only are you also on a barren mountainside, you have a lot more men than they do.

Unless adwarf wants to take an action, the reinforcements from Elbreth arrive (in which case they arrive after whatever action he takes).

So...why did I spend 4 ducats on setting up supply trains and two regiments to guard them?

Because I wasn't paying attention.  Yyyeah, that would do it.

OOC: What the fuck is Hikari talking about? King Erik ascended peacefully to the throne. No villages burned, there were no battles fought. He was simply the son of the last king.

Also, that works for me Iituem :P
Can I get a quick rundown of what defensive bonuses the rebels have? What bonuses, if any, I might have if I initiate the attack?

The King watched the rebel turn tail and run, and couldn't help but let out a laugh. "Very well then! Hide behind your walls, fool! Use the innocent as your shield, but know that you will pay for your crimes against the people of Elbreth and the Crown!" he shouted after the rebel before casually turning to return to his men.

I take up shop in the dungeon, where I begin my research and experiments trying to recreate the substance from before.

((I would assume I take a -1 do to me not being specifically supplied, 6 still being a 6.  Which would probably be, you discover it but it exploded, again, prisoners break out and you are hung for being incompetent))

Don't be silly.  You'd be hanged.

[6]  As you are somewhat afraid will be the case now.  If you're lucky.  The good news is that you've successfully recreated the formula.  The bad news is that your dungeon is now on fire.  [1]  The fire is spreading to several cells and has set fire to the handful of inmates in the dungeon, [2] most of whom are in for a mixture of theft, raiding and tax evasion.  [1]  They are not best pleased, and start trying to tear down their iron cage doors [5] which fortunately for you are very well built.  Not a single prisoner escapes.  Instead they just start screaming and dying all around you.

OOC: Well due to you becoming King the guards posted in his village were removed, and it was burned by bandits. The Village wasn't that big about 20, or 30 people thats it.

The rebels have +1 from the village wall, +2 from the terrain and 2 regiments infantry (for a total bonus of +5).  If you attack, you will have a bonus equal to the size of your considerable army.

Edit:  As for the validity of Hikari's grievances, don't forget that you did basically send an army into his homelands, uproot several clan chiefs and existing power structures that had grown fat over your father's negligence and send them into death or exile.  You've got enemies, sunshine.

((Holes all over his rhetoric. We can starve them out.))

Kain sets up his camp and then goes to his tent to patch himself up.
He sends out a runner to the king.
This land would be brilliant for a fortress your highness, perhaps when we win the battle, I could draw up some plans for one?

Wait for someone down in the village approach us and demand an surrender, if they refuse take an ambassador from them to the village of the Mc Pearsson and show them the Corpse Piles, the burnt down village and the slaves. Take him back unscathed and let him tell them what he saw. If they still don't surrender pull pack to the village and prepare ourselves.

[1]  The Taggarts not only refuse to surrender, they've already heard what you did to the McPearsons.  They have archers, and the archers open fire.  [1]  Your entire honour guard are killed and you are shot in the leg.  [4]  You defend yourself successfully as you escape the village and lose them in the night, but you can hear them swearing to slaughter your clan to a man as you leave.

Oops.

((Well I"M still alive and I now know the formula, and I just put to death a bunch of criminals that the king can receive NO grievance for at all. So all in all, it's a good day.  If you need me I'll be in the stocks til the king gets back.))

I don't suppose there are any supplies with which we could build siege weaponry?

And since the supply train guard isn't actually doing anything of worth, I guess I'll bring them up to Eelspine with us. They can arrive whenever you say they do, but that should bring the number of regiments in these mountains up to 8. Hehe...

Kain's runner would no doubt return with an OK to drafting those plans, as well as a request for Kain to come to the King's tent to discuss strategy as soon as he is able.

((Hope i still get to build that fort though... so should I pm you thatkid?))

Kain wraps the bandage around his head and puts his robe back on. Slipping a set of thick but eqaully black leather armor over it and strapping his sword to a red belt. He strecthes a final time, bids farewell to thin farmgirl he picked up on the way and heads towards the kings tent.

Siege weapons would be viable, yes.  If created, basic catapults would probably count as str 3 when involved in a battle for a walled structure (on either side), str 1 otherwise and have recruit and upkeep costs of 2 Ducats.  But you can't build them without engineers, which for the purposes of the game we will count as a resource akin to land or ducats.  A catapult will thus cost 2 ducats and 1 engineer to build (2 ducats upkeep thereafter) but have no land requirements (since you're not recruiting lots of men).

New Mechanic: Specialists  We'll incorporate more of these as we go, but specialists will be a 'people-resource' representing specialised trades.  The first specialists are engineers, needed for building siege weaponry.  You will need to train specialists or hire them from abroad.

Edit:  In fact, I'm ruling that you can't build anything more than a wall in terms of defensive structures without expending an engineer for each level of structure above that.  (Though improving an existing structure would reduce the cost by as many engineers as were already 'invested'.)
