Milord, I've been looking over the castle for a few months now and I think it coud do with some improvements. Thicker walls, More impressive keep, Taller towers and generally larger. It would be fairly expensive but this money need not be payed all at once. If you do approve of this plan I'll wait for the invasion to blow over before starting work.

He gives Advisor Taricus the go ahead to draw up blueprints.

Thank you, my lord. I will leave the first thing in the morning. And... I've been told that the King's support amongst the great houses of the realm is less than stable at the moment. Some dispute over succession, I believe. You may know more about such things. I think it is something to keep an eye out for in the future.

Advisor Hellhound retires into his quarters and prepares for the long trip to Sahul.

Right. Currently the catle only has the one wall, and the keep not-so impressive.

My proposal is to enlarge the castle so as to have two walls protecting it, as well as building an extra keep so that his lordship can treat the main one as his palace.

((Interesting... But that'll cost a fortune, and we only have 5,000 golds in our treasury, and I think it will go down in the times to come with that army coming towards us. We'll have to wait for a long time before being able to build that.))

((It's planned to be built post-invasion. And the funds wouldn't have to be paid all at once just as long as it got paid by completion.))

Dwarmin you had the plan wrong OChita would go in first, and then I would sneak in as Ochita distracts the man not go with Ochita then as Ochita cast the spellls I would sneak in, adn knock him out, so that is completely wrong.

((Ummm...you should have more clear on that. Like how exactly you were going to disguise yourself as Ochita. From a Great Wizard that can see through walls with magic))

Shadenight, being nominated head of the military, does not rejoice nor flinch, he bows his head about being appointed, and comments:"i will solve the bandits problem in such a way that anyone even thinking about becoming a bandit will tremble in fear and kill himself rather than to go and pillage." with this steel words i have the dragon hearts given to the lord as he comands, and then i have the dragon skins, under the suggestion of an advisor whom i don't recall the name, prepared and used as armour, one for myself, the other for the men i appoint as the best among all those i saw fighting the dragons. They will be called from now on Dragonslayers, and will serve loyally and unto death and beyond the lord and myself. They will be harshly trained and prepared. Not to fight dragons only, but any kind of enemy, especially monstruous but also human.
they must be the best of the best. Good in melee and from far away, strong and skillfull.
it will certainly take it's time, but they will be ready.
and since they will serve with fanatism, they won't even cost much.
and we do have all the prime materials to create dragon weaponry, like dragon bone crossbows and bolts, dragon bone helmets, greaves, breastplates and the like.
The smith will be made to work full hours, and more smithies will be enrolled, taking them from the poor and the outcasts, and making them work as apprentices, until they manage the job. Work on weapons and armours of dragon material will be done only by the best smiths, obviously.
In the meantime, i have patrols routes set.
Two cavalrymen, three swordsmen, two pikemen and three crossbowers form a patrol.
a total of ten units.
At regular intervals they must patrol the towns.
And a militia men must be stationed on top of a wooden tower next to a bell, ready to call the alarm for the bandits, while a messenger must be ready to go and warn the closest military center.
i have stables built at half distance between the castle and the surrounding towns, to have the possibility for cavalrymens to change their horses for fresher ones and reach the battlefield faster. Having enrolled people from the farming zones i ask them if they know of any place where the brigants might have a cave, or a safe place to hide, so as to rat them out.
In case of capturing some brigants, i have them tortured to extract informations about the hideouts. I do not give credit to the first one who speaks, but if more and more singularly taken give me the same location for an hideout, i'll move with the bulk of the army to clean it out.
((depending on the number of towns and how far they are the stables can be build in a way to cover more area or not be built at all. from the earnings we make of 3300, i deduce that if 500 come from a town and 100 from an inn, and 2000 from a castle, we should have castle+inn 2100, then 2 towns+2inns 1200 so, of our total mens:
[300 Spearman/600 Gold] we take 30 of these for patrol
[200 Swordsman/1400 Gold] we take 45 of these
[50 Hobilars(Light cavalary]   350 Gold we take all those who remain and use the other as messengers (unless we do have messengers)
[100 Foot Archers/ 300 Gold] (we take 30 of these)
[1 Medium Ship/ 120 Gold)) (We do not use this.)
so we have 15 patrols patrolling in the following line: Castle-Town1-Town2-Castle (first five patrols. 50 men, but with an interval among them)
the second five patrols (50 men) town 1-town2-castle-town1 and the third five patrols town2-castle-town1-town2. Each single patrol goes one hour of difference from the other one. And the cavalrymen are INSTRUCTED CLEARLY to avoid battling, and while one runs in the direction the patrol came from, the other must run in the opposite one in case of confrontation. (in this way the patrols immediately after and before can be allerted, and can come to aid the attacked patrol))

Advisor Talarion, having already handled all of the neccesary paperwork, retreats to his study to... well, study magic. As he wals through the streets, he notes the beggars outside of his house. Frowning, he walks up and drops them a few silver coins. "Now shoo, that should feed you and your friends for a week, atleast." Sighing at the state of the city, he goes inside to his study to read up on magic. After selecting a choice book on magickal warding, defense and observation, he sits down in front of his fireplace and begins to read.

First thing:
Use dragon materials (dragon bones, dragon skins, dragon claws) to create weapons, armours and shields.

Second thing:
Increase blacksmiths numbers by having idlers and the like learn blacksmithing, so we make weapons faster.

Third thing:
Create another distinction in the military and call them Dragonslayers. They must be able to fight anything. To fight it in close range and far range, and must be fanatically loyal to the lord Dwarfmin and to myself as Head of the military.

Fourth thing:
We set patrols around towns to be able to pinpoint the bandits. A patrol is made of ten Units.
This ten units are composed of Two Cavalrymens, three swordsmen, two pikemens and three crossbowers.

Fifth thing:
The patrols are a total of 15. so it's a total of 150 mens in active patrolling.

Sixth thing:
The patrols are trained, so that they all have an hour difference one from the other, when they begin patrolling.
The patrols are divided into three Squadrons.
Each Squadron contain 5 patrols.
So a Squadron is made up of 50 men.
The first squadron starts patrolling from the Castle to Town 1. Then to Town 2. Then back to the castle.
The second squadron begins patrolling from Town 1, and goes to Town 2, then to the castle, and then back to town 1
The third squadron begins from Town 2, goes to the castle, and then to Town 1, and then back again to Town 2.

Seventh thing:
i have deduced we should have two town, 3 inns, and a castle. I have ordered to have Stables (places where horses can be changed for fresher ones to put it bluntly) at half the distance from the towns, and the castle, to make Cavalrymen able to traver faster.

Eight thing:
Patrols are instructed, in case of Brigands contact, to fight. Except for the Two cavalrymen units.
One unit will go Back through the patrol route, to warn the preceding patrols and make them haste towards the attacked patrol. The other will run on, warning the patrol further down about the attack and making it come back on its step.
Thus Bandits would face, in the beginning an 8 men patrol. Then a 30 men Patrol composed of the 10 of the precedent patrol and 10 of the next patrol on the road.

Ninth thing:
Bandits captured alive are torture for information.
We do not take their information for granted.
If more bandits point to the same thing we check. In bulk.
Bandits are stored for later use.

Tenth thing:
The dragonslayers are Harshly trained and must earn their place.
The "apprentice" smiths cannot work on the dragon material until they have learned their job of Blacksmithing to perfection or near it.

Only problem with that is that they should be loyal to the lord only. Not any advisors, nor any religeous organizations.
