and maybe rest a bit because I'm still at -1.

I never really bothered to fix that because I assumed you'd head straight back to town. We'll say you're both at 5/10 HP if it matters anytime soon.

EDIT: Actually, nevermind. You've been sleeping and medic'd, we'll assume you're at full. Statuses updated.

Gareid squints open one eye, and jumps in surprise, "ALIVE! Whoooooo!" He throws up his arms despite the copious skin damage he recieved, "Whew, I sure as hell didn't think we were making it out of that. Derm, next time cut your losses with just one obedient demon." Gareid proceeds to gratefully thank the initiate for her assistance and accept a bulb for food, letting Derm take the glands, while preparing to return to the nearest town.

Probably. Still working out how exactly that would work, however.

Current frontrunners are boss rewards and some sort of experience-ish thing for losing a lot of HP during battle. I guess that last one would be convenient for you right now. :P

Enchant the chalk with a variation of a Rot spell to make organic matter decompose at an accelerated rate within all simple quadrilaterals inscribed with it.

Speaking of bonuses, any news on this thing?
Also, derm's probably going to get a bonus for rolling [6][Luck 6], but I'm still pondering how exactly that'll work, so nothing for now.
I bring it up because I'm a power-hungry bastard.

Sadly, no news on your bonus just yet. I'll probably throw something up as a placeholder/experiment soon if I can't figure out how I want it to work in general, though.

Poke received. Not dead, just suffering from me being busy and considering various tweaks to numerous things.

Yeah. An'ic'ia doesn't want to be cast into the abyss again.
Aw, but it could be a meme. An'ic'ia, Slayer of Threads.

Turn 9: Books and Worms

Thank the girl for her assistance ("Do you have a name?"), eat a bit of bulb, and put the two reagents in my pack.

[5] She's flattered by your thanks, and mentions that these sorts of plants are supposedly more common where there's fire- presumably they need it to grow. As for her, her name's Saiya.

The bulb tastes delicious, and you pack up the precious fire glands. They're pretty hot to the touch, to the point of nearly being smoldering. You wrap them in a rag for safekeeping.

+2 Fire Glands - (fire component)

Go look for a job that pays well.
[3] Someone rich wants some ultra-rare eggs from an ultra-rare bird, supposedly nesting in a ravine somewhere relatively close. It'd pay well, but you get the feeling it might end up being dangerous, illegal, or otherwise more trouble than it's worth somehow.

Join up with Taric tell him of the job, adn wait for him to choose one, adn follow him to it.
You follow after Taric as he mulls his options.

Sit down, and I'll read my runecrafting book.
[2][Luck 6] You can't quite figure out what you're doing. Fortunately this comes to the attention of a passing person who does, who berates you and starts explaining that true mastery of runecrafting only comes from using it in or for battle. He also mentions some of the more detailed basics, like how engraving permanent runes are difficult, and how different books or even other equipment can give you different ideas or benefits to doing so.

Refuse. Go back the the academy.

I like Frogs and Toads, so no thanks.
[1][Luck 5] Worst. Journey. Ever. Except when the cute farm girl took you in from the rain (mud EVERYWHERE), made you food, explained how lost you were, and paid you to scare some punks who kept thinking pushing over livestock was hilarious.

Anyway, barring more detours you should be able to reach the academy without too much trouble.

+2 Hearty Rations

Gareid squints open one eye, and jumps in surprise, "ALIVE! Whoooooo!" He throws up his arms despite the copious skin damage he recieved, "Whew, I sure as hell didn't think we were making it out of that. Derm, next time cut your losses with just one obedient demon." Gareid proceeds to gratefully thank the initiate for her assistance and accept a bulb for food, letting Derm take the glands, while preparing to return to the nearest town.
[3] She acknowledges your thanks, and mentions that it's usually more dangerous the further from town one is. Returning shouldn't be too hard, though.

+1 Slow-Cooked Plant Bulb - Delicacy

Enchant the chalk with a variation of a Rot spell to make organic matter decompose at an accelerated rate within all simple quadrilaterals inscribed with it.
[4-1][Luck 3], [4-1][Luck 2] The chalk functions as planned, except for two problems. First of all, it's pretty slow- probably not useful in combat, if nothing else. Secondly, it seems like it's suffering from its own effects- you can tell the chalk is very, very slowly disintegrating under its own power.

+2 Necromancy
Chalk becomes Decaying Chalk of Decay

Locate a book on Fire Magics.
[5][Luck 3] You find a very large, brightly colored tome on fire magics. Unfortunately someone else is reading it also, so you have to share.

Of course, it's unlikely you'd learn much in a practical sense just from reading it, and there's no way they'd let you take it with you, but it can still provide information on a wide range of fire related subjects.
