System is largely standard RTD fare, with heavy skill and item modifications.

Most actions are governed by skills, which provide bonuses to actions using them. Skills gain experience through use, with better rolls giving more experience. Higher skill levels take more experience to increase.

Skills, usually magic skills, can be combined for hybrid effects.

Generally speaking, magical methods will be more powerful but less reliable than mundane ones. Mundane skills usually don't backfire, or don't backfire as harshly, for instance.

Death may be somewhat common, depending on various things.

You are all adventurers starting in The Academy in Earthhaven. In addition to being a school, The Academy handles mercenary contracts, coordinates guild efforts, and otherwise arranges for interested parties to find work. Predictably, most such work, or at least most worth doing, will involve traveling to hostile areas to kill and/or loot things.

The World: As far as you know, the world consists of a single continent surrounded by endless oceans. Most of said world is now uninhabitable, being warped and controlled by unnatural horrors. More specific information can be acquired by inquiring minds.

Earthhaven: The kingdom of Earthhaven is the last bastion of humanity left in the world, lying in the center of the continent. It's been strengthened by successive waves of refugees fleeing catastrophe elsewhere, and the threat of annihilation or worse from all sides. It now finds itself under constant siege, meaning talented individuals are in very high demand.

The Academy: Originally a school for the magic arts, The Academy quickly expanded to include training, experimentation, and organization for just about anything that could possibly be useful. It serves as a hub for cultivating and managing useful talent in Earthhaven's preservation.

Name is rather self-explanatory.

Gender/Race is also fairly self-explanatory, though it can also include overt physical augments (grafted, cursed) or cultural offshoots (barbaric, dark elves). Most races (or equivalent) will have no mechanical differences to normal humans, but you can request bonuses/penalties for your selection. Note that most inhabitants of Earthhaven are human, but the current troubles have made some truly strange things seem normal.

Major/Minor Skill is your selection of two skills, one of which will start higher than the other. Both will start higher than nothing, which is what all other skills begin at. Most skills will be magic schools (necromancy, fire magic) or weapon skills (swords, axes), but may also be noncombat or otherwise unusual (smithing, diplomacy). All skills, including those you don't have, may be raised during play. Your skill selection will, however, affect your starting items (see below).

Other: Anything else you'd like to mention about your character that wouldn't fit better elsewhere. In particular, requests for starting items go here; you begin play with one item tied to each of your starting skills, with your major skill item being slightly better. Neither will be especially good, however, and both will be subject to interpretation.

Backstory: Catch-all for anything fluffy. Should probably include at least a rudimentary description, and focus more on personality than history, but otherwise optional. Also a decent place to explain nonstandard races or similar.

More detailed rules will be added later. For now, there are 6-8 slots, likely in two teams of 4 if we go with 8.

Tarok Kingsley has lived his whole life at The Academy, because when he was born he recieved a curse, this curse came in the form of a demon being sealed inside his body, and it is that curse that lead to his people throwing him out of the village. He was thrown out, and it took a day before anyone found him,a nd the man who found him was a powerful magician who saw that this curse was also a blessing as it gave the child great magical powers for when the man found him their was a small demon carrying food, adn water to the child. The man took him in, and raised him specifically to be a weapon against the forces who seek to destroy Earthhaven, and as the child grew everyone in The Academy noticed that he grew extrodinarily fast for at the age of one he could talk in complete sentences, and was two feet tall. The man gave him the name Tarok Kingsley, and continued to raise him, and throughout his training The Academy noticed that the demon inside the child gave him great control over demons, and as thus he could summon them far easier than any other. At the age of ten Tarok graduated The Academy's training, and began taking on missions, adn on his first one the man who raised him, Fredrick Kingsley, was killed by several of the abominations that wander the lands outside of Earthhaven, and having seen him as his father Tarok swore from that day on he would destroy the darkness plaquing the lands.

Gender/Race: Male half human/demon with a little bit of angel sprinkled around randomly.
Major/Minor Skill: Major Longsword. Minor Holy magic.
Other: Make the sword awesome. And give him some damn armor because I'm not going around slashing people without armor.
Backstory: Tarran is the son of a demon father and a human mother. His father was the lord of an unimportant village where his mother lived; of course taken by force. Tarran was taken by his father and raised for several years--abused all the while--before he escaped captivity. He went back to his mother... only to have her killed and almost be caught again by his father. He traveled a long ways to a monastery to a god of good in Earthhaven. Initially, he wasn't accepted, but a friendly monk eventually let him in, where he spent the next few years trying to get the god to forgive him for being the unfortunate son of a demon, wherein he learned his mother was related to an angel, and she wasn't that distant of a relative at that. Eventually, the god forgave him, and he decided that he wanted to help Earthhaven more directly, and has since entered The Academy's service. Tarran is 22 years old, a little tall for an average human, Skin is a mid-point between Caucasian (you know, white people?) and gray (actual gray), Blue eyes, black hair, has a demon's tail, and is mildly muscled.
