Theres usually nothing guarding it until you grab it. Then it spawns a few zombies, not really all that many to tell you the truth. Just be careful about the miasma....

Well, I have just discovered this slade shit. ._. It's full of skeletal somethings... Not sure if 10 lords could handle them, but let's give it a try.

EDit - OMG THEY'RE MORE THAN 100.

If you do not wish to know the real effects of the sword, do not click on the spoiler.

Relevant
This is no longer going well. Many demons are dead, but so is nearly my entire army. There were more than I thought. The remaining soldiers are holding out in the final room between the demonic horde and my base. They fight valiantly, and are a credit to their kind, but it is inevitable. They requested I lock them in, so give my masons time to erect a wall, sealing the way shut. Never Forget what happened here today.

Never Forget.

It's a rare chance - there's one somewhere within each 16x16 embark region.

Congrats, Psieye. This is the first time I've seen a derailed thread get put back on the rails.

Go ahead and start digging for it. Once you find it, just grab it. What could possibly go wrong?

Don't ask.

As you can see, the thread is full of answers. xD I discovered the undead castle (whatever that miasma shit is called like)... But I think that I won't claim the sword. I prefer the fort before the sword. :D

well, you could just...casually give the Nobles the rooms NEAR the sword...but just casually, and then if they make impossible mandates... "cough, you know this is a pick and casually your wall is near demons, right?" "and what should that mean!? i demand GLASS IN THIS MOUNTAIN BIOME WITH NO SAND!" "well, i opened a new air hole, and i'm going to leave...closing the door behind me..." "wh...why...hey what's that noise?"
*on the wall is an engraving of a demon and a dwarf. The dwarf is screaming, the demon is laughing. Other dwarf are laughing*
