I just saw a guy with two broken legs push a minecart with a corpse in it. Yeah.

Nothing yet, the animal hasn't been slaughtered.

Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Yay, the mist gen worked!

Don't turn it off though, best get everyone to ecstatic just in case of another situation like this.

How does this make dwarves happy? Also, yes, the talented Siege Engineer.

Dwarves absolutley adore mist, if they bask in it, they'll grow very happy quickly.

Never worked with a mist generator before - does it also clean the dwarves?

(Don't attempt to answer that.  Down that path lies ... well I was going to say madness but you all run towards madness as if it was made from chocolate and puppies.  Just forget I said anything.)

It does, as far as I know, but I have a dip set up in front of it so nobody needs cleaning once they get there. It's still not spring. Framerate is great -- it started about 40 and is now double that due to my employment policies, but I've spent far more time staring at static screens than letting the game run.

Here's what I've been doing with my time:

Fuck yeah, socks. I probably should have done that in Galena.

22nd Moonstone
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Plenty of things to do in the fortress. Time to get that hospital sorted!

16th Opal
Okay, I've had enough of this. I've told everybody that they can do whatever jobs need doing, and they're just hauling stuff around instead of USING it. NO MORE STOCKPILES ANYWHERE except for food, I don't trust these idiots to stick to any orders regarding hauling. I dumped the wounded onto the floor so that they could be moved to the hospital. Guess what? They're still there!

17th Opal
Another shambling horror emerges from the depths of the lower cavern.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Or slithers. It's another flying bleeder.

8th Obsidian
Our morbid metalsmith still hasn't moved, having taken only some lizard remains and a small pile of bones to the butcher's. The rooster provided nothing, and neither did the dog I reluctantly ordered butchered. I order a door put in, and consider what might do the trick. There is a large pile of dumped bones near the entrance, behind the first set of weapon traps. I free them for use, and personally check over the path before anyone else can arrive. Even if I've managed to make enough socks and gloves for every adult, I don't want a repeat of the Gale--

Crisis averted, and nobody's feet exploded in the process! The liaison finally left. Bim has been too busy meeting with the grieving and still angry to deal with trade agreements. We've ordered plenty of cloth and leather and drink, plus all the flux and pig iron they can carry. Lots of good dwarven livestock too. We need to replenish the breeding stock, as our last dog doesn't seem to be pregnant.

The current state of the fortress:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I ordered the depot moved to a more central position within the fortress. Any dwarf carrying goods to the depot will be automatically washed and misted. Isn't that neat, diary? All weapons and armour will be stored here as well. It's quite the trek from here to the forges. I wonder what I could do? To the south the temporary clothworks are visible. This is part of my 'Just Bloody Do It' employment program. I send a load of orders, build a load of workshops, and a load of dwarves come and sort it all out.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
These are the smoothed catacombs, with the mist engine visible to the right. On the level above is the lever to halt mist production. The stairs leading up here from the depot will be demolished, just in case.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Here is the hospital! And a loom in the hospital. Also visible is the prison area, which will be tidied up and fully outfitted sometime in the future.

Yeah, you led the fortress into a tantrum spiral and managed to get it out with minimal deaths.

Six rulers, two tantrum spirals. I'm curious to know the number of dead dwarfs in the fortress.

No update tonight, it's too late to start on the chunk of text that the update needs. But here, have a preview if you like. The rest will be up tomorrow.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The number of dead dwarves was 128 when you posted that.

"when you posted that." makes me worry, especially with that screenshot.
