13th Limestone
First insane dwarf. A farmer called Melbil started howling in his room, but luckily someone was able to bolt the door before he got the idea to run out.
15th Limestone
A gem cutter laughs in the mounting chaos. It is not a happy laugh.
Huh. Well, that solves one of our problems at least. I don't think Athel will be able to make much of that one...
19th Limestone
Another day, another madman screaming in his room.
15th Sandstone
In the midst of life we are in death.
That is the way the saying goes, right?
16th Sandstone
Oh now what?
I also hear that the thing is so fat that it catches itself on the blood thorns, which sizzle and smoke. I'll make a note of that.
26th Limestone
SHUT THE FUCK UP I DON'T CARE
21st Timber
Finally there are fewer than 20 miserable dwarves in the fortress (17), and I don't know how many of them are crazy. Everybody has been too busy to bring food and drink to the prisoners (one death so far), but apparently they're not too busy to lug whole barrels of food and drink about the place. Damn it. We have traders in now, so hopefully we'll be able to offload enough old socks (well not socks, we'll be needing those) to buy food and drink. We may have fewer mouths to feed, but there are still 85 live bodies in the place.
In more cheering news, the pumps for the mist generator are active and the only thing that remains is to give them something to pump.
26th Timber
Status: whatever. The food and drink supplies are holding up despite the constant brawling in the corridors. Looks like the brewers and cooks have been dodging all the violence.
28th Timber
Zaneg the tanner has gone berserk!
He was within arm's reach of three of the military and was promptly cut into five.
6th Moonstone
Another dwarf tries to finish what Zaneg started, living up to the noble name of berserker.
He lived up to the noble name of his profession, I'll give him that.
15th Moonstone
First mist appearing. 7 dwarves are miserable, 3 are very unhappy, 3 are unhappy, 6 are fine, 29 are content, 12 are happy, and 10 are ecstatic. A blacksmith is crouching in the butcher's shop muttering about 'things'. I order one of the stray pets to be butchered in the hope that it will yield something of use. The dogs are currently too valuble to be slaughtered.
As I stroll through the main catacomb, stepping over the new coffins spilling into the corridors, I notice that despite the chaos the whole area looks a lot... tidier. I am told that upon being asked what to do with the dozens of idlers, I answered 'chisels'. Quite emphatically. This was taken as a sign that everybody should use their idle hands on engraving and not on each other. I don't remember that. The only part I don't remember of my unofficial overseership was the part where I sat rocking in a corner for a week. I guess I'll take credit for it anyway.
22nd Moonstone
The worst is over. After some enforced mist therapy, much of the population is functioning. The records show that there are still two beatings to be handed out, but as our entirely civilian guard captain crazed and died as Likot Bernelas Cenatholon Balad I think I will defer punishment until I am absolutely sure that the guard will use the training spears I assigned them.
Our hospital facilities are... well, I can't find them. The only well in the place draws from mud, and the few wounded lie in the barracks. There is a hospital sign scrawled on a wall that overlooked blank floor. This floor is now the prison area. I will send someone to wipe the sigil.
In terms of skills, we are at least able to provide support for the military. We have a weaponsmith, and our best armourer Iggy has survived untroubled. Our
best weaponsmith went insane a short time ago and was cut down without ceremony. Dumed Monomnazom is a dwarf to watch. He is responsible for no less than four dwarven deaths these five months and is still sane.
OOC:
Whew. Five months gone already (not four then). Oh well, at least those armouring jobs got finished and the military have levelled up a bit.
...We have a Talented siege engineer, and we could use her. That's totally what you meant right?
