Ever since Spore, I've learned not to hype myself up for anything.

Newb.  I got disillusioned by Morrowind.  Even tho it was a pretty great game, it was not nearly everything my dreams wanted it to be.

That being said, ANYTHING WOULD BE BETTER THAN NOW IN DF'S WORLD GEN!  Nobody has a home, not even humans.  Nobody has a job, or a purpose, or a freaking life.  Nothing.

What I want, most of all, is a more in-depth transit system.  We need more roads and tunnels and such than we have now.  Civs should pave roads between cities, forts, and hamlets alike.  And they should make roads to their neighbooring civs, so that they can increase trade.  As it is now, you have roads between hamlets and towns, and that's it.  Never will you find a road leading from the Human towns to it's Dwarven trading partner, even if they DO go there 10 times a year to get their booze (or w/e).

It looks like during the Caravan arc, one of the first things to be added will be Taverns, in both Fortress and Adventure mode.  That's a good thing, too, since it will be the first hint of life the world has outside of player generated fortresses and "human hovel houses".  I miss these dearly.  What's an adventuring dwarf to do without a proper tavern to drink his mead in, eh? Amirite?

Hopefully the taverns will be better than the mead halls we used to have, although watching the sheep peasantry flock to their doom lunch was always amusing. But with cities, I'm looking forward to winding alleyways, where noone will hear my victims scream bother me while I sleep

I can't wait for buildings other than the 40d 5x5 shacks with furniture and the current larger but completely empty shacks.

I think Toady mentioned that markets will appear first. It's cool, because while it's interesting to prance around the forest looking for a house with a sign, the markets with traders (and caravans coming/leaving later) will be other "signs of life" already mentioned in this thread which would make the game more believable.

Right now it's a pure "wilderness survival". People should want to stay in cities, not to run to the nearest forest like hell because the town looks like a mausoleum.

... ANYTHING WOULD BE BETTER THAN NOW IN DF'S WORLD GEN!

I say what he said.

I mean, even if you just gave the dwarves, elves, and goblins their own towns of 5x5 buildings that would be an improvement. Right now you can't even be an honest dwarf or elf who actually pays for his own stuff and hangs out with his buddies.

Also, it seems like roads really ought to cause travel to take less time. Tell me if I'm wrong, but it seems like fast travel is the same regardless of whether it's through plains or jungle or swamp.

Incremental minor changes FTW

What am I looking forward to? I wan't to see streets. REAL streets with multi story houses tightly together at the sides. I wan't to see abandoned buildings. I wan't to see water/sewer systems that connect wells/dump into a pond/lake/sea. I want to see houses with secret passages and I want to see people have beds and chests and coffers and tables and chairs in their houses. I want to see cellars and lampstands. I want to see merchants on the streets and I want to see pastures at the outskirts of the city. I want to see bridges that span across giant rivers and I want to see pubs and inns and shops with counters. THAT'S what I am looking forward to.

I hope we get some ability to drag creatures, like 'wrestle> grab upper body with right upper arm' and then 'wrestle with right upper arm> carry' or something like that, to make stealing sheep etc. from people's yards possible.
Would be awesome, especially if you could sell 'em at another town.

...Although more likely they'd just be used as throwing weapons. :P

Go to house > collect residents > Throw at ambushing bandits/soldiers. Instant peasant army.

I just thought of something: Guerilla warfare in the city. Sniping people from rooftops using crossbows, ambushing people, the works!

Hide in alley.

Wait for drunken gaurd.

Hand over mouth.

Slit throat.

Steal armor/gold.

Vanish into night.

Also, bar brawls.
