I'm hoping that dwarf, elf and goblin settlements will appear again.
I'm hoping that dwarf settlements are more than just a hole in the ground, elf settlements have one house that their shaman/whoever runs elfland resides in and I hope gobbos have their towers back with a few enhancements (prisoners in cages underground, begging to be freed)

I'm hoping for non-human towns.

@mention of Darklands
Dwarf Fortress adventure mode often reminds me of it because of how non-arcadey it handled damage and events. Still a lot more arcadey than DF, but far less than Fallout and Morrowind. Lacked infection, but it seemed like a feature it should have had with how difficult it was to heal and how easily a bad decision or failed skill roll could kill or permanently injure a character/party.

I want to be wrong, but I think it will be only human cities this time. Elf settlements will need multitile trees, for instance, and I don't think Toady will tackle all this issues at once.

Yeah, DF is certainly similar to Darklands in some ways. The dwarves in Darklands were pretty comparable to ours as well. IIRC, they kept kobolds as slaves, tried to poison the adventuring party with gas and dabbled in satanism. I think there was also event chain which caused them to permanently ruin the beauty of your best looking party member with acid.

im hoping to go GTA on one of those cities

I forsee goblins speaking like this:
"Sup dawg, I'ma roll wit mah homies in da wagon, bust a bolt in some humie's ass, yo."

...Or they could just go bowling.

I hope there'll be different factions you could join in the city, such as being able to apply as one of the city guard, or joining the merchant's guild as a Caravan merc. , and the like.

More importantly, I look forward to running around with two Beggar corpses in either hand, beating the royal guard to death.

I'm really just plain excited... But especially the first paragraph of IpunchFaces' post.
And especially especially the caravan guard bit... Ooh yeah. :D Been looking foward to that for ages!
Quests within the city sounds really freakin' awesome too. I can hardly wait!

I've changed my mind. This whole thread? Yeah, that's what I'm looking forward to. All of this stuff sounds completely awesome.

I'm hoping for dorf settlements, so i don't have to go barrel through a million night beasts who killed some dorfs in order to get armor. Inb4bandits, i can't ever find dorf bandits. :c

Ever since Spore, I've learned not to hype myself up for anything.

I look forward to the fact that changes are planned for cities and I'm excited to find out what they are when the version is released.

I can't wait for randomized architecture. It's probably a fair way into the future in terms of stuff to be worked on, but I still can't wait for it.

I usually end up equipping a dwarf adventurer by prying goblins' armor off them.
