Honestly, what I am looking forward most to about cities is the potential to genocide the whole thing.

Think of the stories that would be told. Urist McReallyLongandCrazyTitleofDoom, the Pugnent Door. Slayer of cities.

Christ, are you dwarves or are you elves? If you think Hell has too many demons, then youkill them till the population reaches an acceptable number.
Dwarf Fortress: So horrifying the players would rather talk about nice things, like Warhammer 40k.

I thought WAAAGH!!!s were a mass migration/pub crawl/holy war. (Though, I got that from TvTropes, so, meh.)

Oh. Okay then.

Also: I want to see city walls. Nothing's more satisfying then sniping enemy soldiers in an invading army with a crossbow while on top of a city wall.

Brothels, theaters and hospitals.  Oh yeah, and arenas, where you can bet as well as participate.

The larger the cities the more people to butcher in my opinion, bring it on, Toady!

Fail cities, there's no way in at all, a ring of houses blocks entry :P

Actually it looks like Toady's city layout generator (creating the images within the game which I bet become the actual blueprints used by the game to designate tiles) works well enough; always a way through the buildings, even if you have to walk a mile or two in either direction, which it apparently does on some parts.

Now my real question is, after the infinitely respawning population problem (filling a town once is acceptable, but they should at least be tracked numerically so killing that number of them makes it vacant, even if they aren't tracked by any other means) is fixed, will these cities be so large and birth rate so high, and migrants to them so numerous, that one lone dwarf of any skill and armament simply cannot kill them fast enough to MAKE it a ruin? If someone were to succeed, they should immediately be given a wiki page with a good biography :P

I feel rather odd in this topic,  I don't think the "More fodder for the Slaughter" is exciting to me...   I'm glad the options there, but I prefer the less... murderous... roles ...

I'm with you Kaelem.
After all, if you kill everything, who's going to give birth to the next generation of victims?!
Sustainable rampaging. :P

No seriously, I think it would be more fun to use a city as a base for your adventurer, rather than a target.

I'm with everyone on the city quests-part. I think I am just generally looking forward to a new playground for discovering cool stuff, I don't know, maybe graffiti (wall engravings) in some back alley, or different groups/guilds within a city, maybe markets and competing traders. There are just so many things this will allow later on.
