RIP, never forget guys.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
EA produced the original The Sims. Maxis turned down Will Wright when he pitched it to their board.

And just judging from this 2008 interview, Will Wright didn't seem displeased with the way Spore turned out, but this was close to when it released so he might not have been totally honest. If there's something out there where Will Wright is explicitly displeased with how Spore turned out for reasons that are related to EA (other than the DRM problems but I hardly think that's what the image means by "destroyed"), please share.

I just posted a topical picture I found on google, it's probably older than me. The only reason I hate EA is because after it acquires companies their games tend to get a lot worse. I really enjoy FIFA and Madden as a matter of fact. Though frankly, even those games have roughly the minimum amount of work put into them to keep them fresh. FIFA gets a lot of love as flagship kind of game, but most things produced by EA get worse of time. IN MY OPINION. You don't have to feel the same way, and a lot of people would disagree with me, but in almost every single instance a series that began pre-EA loses something in its post-EA titles.

I was criticizing the picture, not you. I'm not disputing the idea that EA is generally terrible, but I would prefer that when people bashed EA it would be in a manner that respects the facts.

What I find most interesting is that most of those were consumed by EA in 2004.

They caught a lot of flak back then for it too. Again in 2014 oddly enough.

Once per decade EA must... feed.

Kind of silly. You still posted the picture of your own accord.

You should really look to the wilderness for your stealth ideas, it has been doing it much longer than you have after all. Take squids for example, that ink trick works pretty well, and in water too! So you just sneak into the dam upsteam, dump several megatons of distressed squid into it, then break the dam. Boom, you suddenly have enough water-proof stealth for a whole city!

Tbh I kind of agree with most of the image's points, at least in regards to Origin, Westwood, and Bullfrog. Bioware's demise sucked... but they kinda linger on after a fashion (we're still getting NWN clones and BG clones)

They would probably not be able to advertise at all outside of porn sites. They'd limit their base.

I don't see how it would be a limit. Porn sites (at least the major ones) are probably more frequently visited than any collection of gaming sites.

Of course, the audience isn't necessarily 1:1. But you could target advertising pretty easily. People who favour animated nudity or rule34 would be prime targets for nude texture DLC.

You'd advertise the base game and let word of mouth or targeted advertising on porn sites carry your adult content. It would give some fuel to puritans (who'd hate your game anyway but now have a semi-legitimate reason to do so) and you'd get some backlash from people who don't think porn should be in a AAA game - and won't buy your game because of it, but sales might balance it out.

I mean... it's not like there's not precedent. Steam has been selling censored porn games for a while now. Some of them don't even call for an age check as per certain violent games, iirc. All this proposed official nude mod stuff would have to do is sell the material on a different site.

Surely there are some actual sales to talk about. This isn't the "hate on EA" thread.

Bundle Stars has also kicked off their Easter sale and even threw in a 5% off voucher! https://www.bundlestars.com/en/

And wow, I was just making an unfunny flippant joke about the depths EA would plummet if they could make some moolah off of it, I was not expecting it to get this far. Maybe we should make a "EA hate wagon thread".

Awesome, cheers for the heads up. I lost my original of this, so it's great to get it again.

I always find it weird that devs do the whole massive discount before releasing the next iteration - most people buy games because they want to sort of scratch an itch ('I really want to play a space 4x' for instance), and I feel that a lot of people would play the first one to death, get their fill of that kinda game and then be a bit less inclined to buy the new one at full price.

When XCOM came out, I bought it at it's first 5% off sale or whatever, because I really wanted to play that kinda game. If I'd just got played a similar TBS I'd have definitely left it for a few months.

Instant buy.

I've had more than enough fun with Endless Legend over the years to want to try this one out at that price.

It's a really good one - my only suggestion is to go for slightly smaller maps (and therefore shorter games) than you'd usually go for in 4x games. It's not that there isn't a lot of depth (there is) it's just that a lot of the fun comes with trying out the different races and different strategies. I know all 4x games are like that, but this one more so than others - the races are all really different, and there's a lot of different ways to do stuff, but if you just get stuck in 2-3 epic scale maps you'll just get worn down.
