YHTBTR is the hardest game. /thread

Kind of stretches the definition of weapon though...  I mean yeah, it's really just equipment, but still.
Seeing how you HAVE to use that to kill the final boss, and thus beat the game, you do have to stretch it a bit. However, it is possible to do a no items run up to that point.

I really only even tried to beat YHTBTR to hear the epic victory music, but I have never managed it. I'll listen to it on youtube, and pretend I'm a winner.

Of the ones that I have played personally (and by played i mean more than just picked up and discarded shortly afterwards), I think eternal daughter is the hardest.
It would be nice if it had a checkpoint for every screen, just because it's so unforgivingly hard.

"hard" isn't the same as "just try it 10.000 times to figure the entire level out and then you succeed"

Hard is having to figure out very difficult puzzles and stuff.

Oh hey that reminds me.

Play "Out of this World" without any walkthroughs or hints.

There comes a time when you must take off the soft, furry slippers of a boy and put on the shoes of a man.
Unless of course they don't fit properly and your feet blister up like bubble wrap.
Oh ho ho, but don't try to return the shoes, because they won't take them back once you've worn them.
Especially if that fat pig Tony is at the desk.

Heh. Indeed. But no, it's not as bad as The Immortal. Almost. That game is basically Guide Dang It incarnate. You can die just by loitering in the starting space for a little too long. And the amulet you have with you from the start is a neat trinket. Neat, world-ending trinket. That you actually need to use at a few points.

Also the sequel, Heart of the Alien. And that reminds me of a freeware game in the same vein - onEscapee.

I have to agree with Hawkfrost that Kaizo Mario is difficult as hell.

I had my friends try it just to listen to their upsettedness about losing the first level in under 30 seconds.

Try some of the other ROM hacks. "Super Asshole World" for example, can kill you at the introduction scene, insults you, turns bonus stages into deathtraps, and forces you to complete a boss battle under a strict time limit while fighting an invisible boss backed up by invisible ghosts.
