The Devil may Cry games would probably qualify, though there are plenty of people who have finished them on the hardest level so YMMV.

Also, Big Rigs:Over the road Racing is quite hard... if you play to lose.

If the OP wants games that may cause murder and/or suicide, this is a perfect example. You will absolutely want to murder the executive who decided this game was suitable for release.  ;D

La Mulana
Kaizo Mario World is a romhack, but retardedly hard
Most Shin Megami Tensei games
Gradius
Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels
Demon's Souls, and the spiritual sequel Dark Souls is going to be harder

Compared to the other stuff in this thread, Devil May Cry is pretty tame. DMC2 is actually pathetically easy.

Haven't played DMC4 yet, though.

First of all, why do Touhou people have to turn fucking everything into Touhou.  It's like the borg or something.

I think this is irrelevant to say if you come from Bay12. As everyone here turns everything into Dwarfs.

Just saying.

Odama: Voice-controlled battlefield game mashed together with pinball. SO DIFFICULT.

TMNT III was hard too.

And then we complain that everything is shamelessly ripping off DF.  ;)

Difficulty-dependent, of course. If you're playing on the easy difficulties, sure, it's trivial. Beating the top difficulties basically requires a lifetime of dedication to mastery of split-second reactions and insane key combinations (double distorted hits, anyone?). Never mind beating them with S rankings.  :o

Hmm.  Would this tendancy be enough to drive you to murder and/or suicide?

To add to the list of hard games, pretty much every roguelike out there, but some more than others. I'd recommend NetHack.

Chess.

Or hard, difficult, only in the hand-eye(-legs-head) coordination wise?

Goodness I guess I can put the "difficulty" into three piles

1) Spoiler based difficulty: All Roguelikes... Most annoyingly IVAN (DAMN IT IVAN!!!)
2) Unfair Based Difficulty: I wanna be the guy for example
3) Life Based difficulty: Touhou, Devil May Cry.
