As someone said above, i don't care for smart phones, portable music players or touchpad pc's.

Laptops: well sure, macbook's are kinda sexy, but they're hellishly expensive, and as a uni student i don't have that sort of money to splash around. Not to mention that there's a set of programs that i need to run that won't work on mac.
PC: Mac stuff is just hellishly expensive. the price of the mac thingo's with the computer behind the screen is ridicilious. (and my uni bought 100's of them to install windows xp on for the libraries...). You'd be much better served by building your own pc. And it could run games to.

I dislike on principle any company primarily marketing its products at rich idiots who want to impress other rich idiots. Neither am I impressed with their apparently quite severe control issues with regards to third-party development and services; I have a very limited tolerance for being patronised, especially by consumer electronics I've paid a non-trivial sum of money for.

Also, iTunes is one of the worst media players I've ever had the misfortune to encounter.

I, as a relatively young person, detest them for their complete lack of worthwhile games.

I don't have any particular feelings toward the company or the brand. But I don't ever buy Apple products. Their PCs are too expensive and as for their iPods, they don't have flac or ogg support and I don't want to have to mess around with re-encoding my music.

Also, iTunes is one of the worst media players I've ever had the misfortune to encounter.

So true.

There is a term I am thinking of here, and I can't recall what it is right now, but it describes apple very well.

You know how with the newer ipods, you need you buy headphones from apple, because no other type of headphones work. And to put music on it you need apples itunes, as opposed to other devices that have plug and play. So basicaly once you go apple your locked into it... I hate that!

Apple tried to provide a very cohesive and seamless vertically-integrated experience. In other words, their model involves you using their headphones, their computers, their players, their miscellaneous other devices, and so forth. That's just what their business model is.

They don't require seamless integration, they just make sure it's the only availible integration.

Secret commie plot by Steve Jobs to make all Mac hardware work seamlessly together.

Of course, vertically-integrated business models become illegal if taken vary far.

I detest Apple. Their products don't seem to be that much better than what others have to offer. They market everything they make or do as revolutionary and superior to any rivals it might have, which is annoying, as much of this justification is based on their product's aesthetics. I don't like their control-freak tendencies, and their fanboys are remarkably annoying.

Re: early iPods crashing...well, what do you expect when you put a hard drive (the spinning kind, not the solid-state kind) in a small container that people go jogging with and take into all kinds of temperatures?  The fact that they lasted for years on end was nothing short of a miracle.  The hardware itself was very bleeding-edge for a while, and crashes are one thing you get from that.  Newer systems that use solid-state storage, regardless of manufacturer, don't have that issue.

I dislike Apple. I have never bought an Apple product, and the only one I own is a very old iPod Nano that was given to me. It still works to this day (in theory, I haven't charged the battery in almost a year now), but I never had much use for it. Apple as a company has done nothing to convince me they are not totally amoral.

Plus, even though it doesn't count all that much in the spectrum of what we are discussing, consider:
Bill Gates is giving away all his money to those in need at an astounding rate, and plans to die poor.
Steve Jobs has 5.1 billion dollars, and no record of philanthropy of any kind.

I'm a capitalist tried-and-true, but when you have enough money that other absurdly rich people envy your wealth, it is time to start letting the money go.

I dislike Apple. They're overpriced and elitist.

As well they just keep making more useless shit for the stupid masses. (See: Tablet. What the hell? They combined a laptop and lsot all the useful parts. It csn't be used as a computer, and it's to big to conveniently listen to music with.)

And hipsters like them.

You make it sound like Apple invented the tablet computer. They didn't. People have been using those for a while, and they have their uses.

Apple did not invent the tablet computer, regardless of what they might say, and even if people use them, they're still very much a niche market.
