Anyway, he pissed me off real bad while fighting Manus.  My Boss-Destroyer 9000 only works if I can fully buff it and kill the boss before Darkmoon Blade expires, and since Manus is so ridiculously aggressive I needed Sif to help.  He didn't do jack shit.  I basically had to intentionally bring Manus to Sif or he'd just circle around watching him.  He also died in the fight, having dealt negligible damage.

I hate him.

Nope, the Furtive Pygmy's soul isn't one of the ones you gather. Nito's soul is mostly unchanged, just weakened. The Witch of Izalith's soul was basically transferred to the Bed of Chaos. Seath did not find a lord soul like the others; his was granted a fragment of one for his betrayal of the dragons. And the Four Kings aren't given much lore info, but they were also granted fragments of a lord soul.

You'll learn about the Pygmy's soul if you defeat the Four Kings before placing the Lordvessel with Frampt.

The Pygmy Soul was the Dark Soul, and where all of humanity comes from. According to Darkstalker Kaathe, you are the inheritor of the Pygmy's dark soul. If you look closely at the humanity sprites you collect, they are all black; so are the soul-powered dark sorceries and humanity sprites in DLC content.

The Four Kings are given some lore. They were the greatest of human leaders, and the Lords trusted them. But they were tempted by Darkstalker Kaathe's life drain ability (see: Dark Hand, which lets you drain humanity out of living enemies). The Lords, either betrayed or scared, annihilated all of New Londo to contain the Four Kings threat. In essence, the Four Kings are reminescent of the Nazgul riders in Lord of the Rings - greatest Human kings of all times, given extreme power and driven to corruption and undeath.

Seath the Scaleless betrayed the entire dragon race, leading to their extermination. For that, Lord Gwyn also granted him a fragment of a Lord Soul (from himself, I assume) and full power to conduct magical research. Seath was obsessed with immortality, as being scaleless he was the only dragon who would age and die. He found the solution, but also utter madness, in the magical crystals. You can see the results if you seek out Logan, and learn his advanced spells.

Nito has gone mad and corrupt, overreaching. He has to die. The Witch of Izalith was irrevocably twisted by demonic magic when she tried to reignite the First Flame, and the Bed of Chaos now seems to be a separate entity which feeds on her. Lord Gwyn is essentially a Hollow now, having sacrificed himself to keep the Flame burning.

Yeah... I love the story behind this game, and how vague the final revelations/endings are. Can't wait for the damn sequel...

Artorias also strikes me as really well done, design-wise.  His movements are perfect, he moves like he's been possessed by something that's still getting acquainted with how human bodies are supposed to move (and that's precisely what's happened!).  I love the flip animation he does, he's like a ragdoll.

Huh, possessed you say? By what? I thought he was just driven mad by losing his humanity to the abyss... I also got the impression that the abyss was just the far-reaching influence of Magnus, and is in essence the ultimate corruption that can be achieved by the Dark Soul. That's why it makes other humanities go wild.

I hate the DLC areas.
Starts of with a boss that is unreasonable to fight without a shield.
Big forest full of two enemies: one kind of fast and weak, one slow and powerful, both bad in groups (if you have no AoE attacks).
Dragon that I haven't personally fought.
Artorias, who can only be reasonably fought with a good shield and not-slow weapon.
Oolacile Township: more paths than the Tomb of Giants, enemies set up for ambush, min/max PvP.
Chasm of the Abyss is dark, pathway inept, and full of enemies that cause damage upon contact.
Final boss has been argued as the hardest in the game.
And if you complete the Sif sequence you may actually cry.

Pfff!  I did Sanctuary Guardian and Artorias without a shield, you'll be fine.  Oolacile Township can be rough in the lower parts (the stairway with two sorcerers still gives me nightmares) but the rest is pretty easy.

Manus is pretty hard, yes, and we all know how I feel about Sif so I won't rehash that.

How do you figure Nito has gone mad? I never did figure out what his role in the story was, apart that he was apparently locked away by those masked necromancers? They boarded the entrance to his crypts pretty well so I always assumed they had overpowered him and were draining his power or something.
Either way, frampt can't be trusted and hardly gives any info on why he wants you to kill him anyway. The way of the white isn't neceserily against the nito and his dark faction, verior nox and all that as well as that paladin who appears to guard the entrance to nito's tomb for whatever reason. Don't know why gwyn would be against him, apart from some form of rivalry.
So, what's the deal with nito?

I killed him without a shield, then killed the double guardian that spawns there once you kill manus. Your argument is invalid.
The dragon is the best fight in the game in my opinion. I enjoyed every moment of attempting to take off his tail for several nail biting hours!

Hmm, I took a skim through the various wikis and it appears that my info came out of the fandom discussion when the game just came out. This could be additional information available to Japanese player, something glimpes from a press event, or something that people made up.

The only relevant info I can find is the description of Gravelord Sword Dance:
"Miracle known only by the servants of the first dead, Gravelord Nito. Giant Gravelord swords jut out in vicinity.
 Nito sleeps deep within the Giant Catacombs, quietly overseeing all death, and waiting for his servants to usher in the Eye of Death."

and
""The dreadful Eyes of Death spread disaster across neighboring worlds. Phantoms lured to the host world may end up as victims, allowing the Eyes of Death to multiply, and leading to further proliferation of bane."

Oh well. I'll meditate on this further, maybe I'll get more info.

As to the Paladin, his item descriptions tell of a long-lost paladin. He is most likely completely insane, not actually guarding anything.

Maybe he pledged allegiance to Nito a long time ago; knights and paladins are not very good with relinquishing those. Same situation as Sif not wanting to fight you. This would also explain why he chooses to help you vs Pinwheel, as Pinwheel has stolen power from Nito.

Ahh, the DLC. From what I saw, they essentially went "How do most people play this game? WELL FUCK THEM." I had to change everything I was doing to get through successfuly. But then it was smooth.

Artorias is about dodging, NOT about blocking. And I love my shield to death. You can't afford to block him - you have to dodge, and hit fast and hard. Repeat until dead. The Tree guardians need to be blocked, as their attacks glance off easily. The Stone Giants are all but immune to slashing/piercing and have to be attacked with a blunt weapon. If you have that, they die quickly. Fire is effective, but wasteful.

The Township is interesting. The regular enemies need to be killed quickly, as their frenzy will break shields and kill you. They are also very good at surrounding, so you need to mind your positioning. The sorcerers are dangerous, but slow. You can get the talisman which, with good timing, will trivialize them.

The humanities are cake on a platter with a reach weapon. I came in with a Scythe +15 (my primary weapon) but anything that has reach will do fine. Just stay mobile.

Magnus... I found him very, very, very easy. He has amazing ranged abilities, but with a decent shield (Silver Knight +5) and dodging I just hugged his ugly frame and killed him quickly. I only saw his spells once each.

The DLC essentially requires three things: Be mobile; stay in melee; time attacks well. It was pretty good training for the rest of the game.

My approach:

Fight as normal (power within, DMB, two-hand Ricard's Rapier and press R2.

When that doesn't work, get mad.

Try again.

Keep trying.

Get madder.

Do the  same thing until you get lucky.
