What interest does Russia and/or China have in Syria anyway?
The main reason for the Russians is their naval base in Tartus.
If Russia gets knocked out of Syria, the Russian Navy will be knocked out of its only base in the Mediterranean Sea.
Also, it is believed in Russia that if they will not interfere, Syria will fall, Iran will follow, then the Americans will take over Central Asia, and after that, Russia will have to deal with American troops standing on Russia's extremely long and undefendable southern border (not the mention the potential refugee problem and the destabilization of the Caucasus region)
Do the US really have any interest in going to war against Russia anymore though ? I mean, Russia is a shell of its former glory. Much of its international influence is gone.
It's interesting to see how people in other countries think though.
Well I mean, unless America is taken over by a fanatical dicator crazyier than Kim Jong Ill was, the USA will never fight Russia. Simply, Russia has nukes, the US has nukes, they both have triangular second strike capability, any conflict would result in mutual desturction and unacceptable losses.
Russia does not have the international clout it once had, which is all the more reason for it to keep the clout it has now.
Oh by the way if Syria fell, no fucking way Iran would fall. Those guys prepared, they have tanks, an air force, a gigantic and loyal army, and Iran almost has nuclear weapons. In terms of degrees of preperations, I would say it goes like this: Libya (totally un-prepared, abandoned a nuclear program.)-Syria (clearly didn't prepare enough, should have had a bigger army and had the people more relient on the state.)-Iran (reasons articulated earlier)-China(Class A operation, I can't really think of anything that is wrong with their model besides the fact that the Tyranny is obvious, which is kinda hard to avoid.).
