I was waiting for a train today.
This particular station has 3 platforms and 2 tunnels between them on opposite sides of the station. Platforms are about 0.7m high to allow easy entry into trains. Exit is on platform 1.
The south tunnel is being repaired and it's stairway to platform 1 is blocked, so it only leads between platforms 2 and 3.

I was standing on platform 2, near the entrance to the south tunnel, when a man near me, bagel and cigarette in one hand, mobile phone in other, walked into the railway and went to platform 3. He had to drop the phone to climb up onto it.
Soon after, a person from platform 3 crossed the railway to platform 2, barely managed to climb onto it and required assistance to stand up. Then he went on the platform towards the north tunnel.

We were training horses for the ncha (national cutting horse association, it's a rodeo adjacent sport thing) so I never saw the breeding process, since we mostly had quarter horses and you don't go all careful breeding them like with thoroughbreds. I have seen gelding before though, when I was like 15. That sound is the worst shit in the world. Vet made a joke about cooking the castoffs up for dinner, which I think is mandatory at this point.

Oh, in other WTFs, earlier I was tryna make toast when I heard the front screen door crash open, followed by someone bellowing something at the front door. I tentatively went out after a moment (I'd sorta hoped it was actually some noise from next door, but nope), bread bag still in hand, and saw a flash of high-vis through the pebbled glass in the door.
I opened it to see a large parcel addressed to one of my housemates propped against the door. Jeez. Must've been in a hurry.
Bear in mind, this was at like, eight in the morning. It's a wonder I was even up!

Jeeeesus Christ, I was already annoyed by a somewhat noisy fellow passenger on the train, but just now the loudest bunch of cunts I've encountered in living memory have boarded the train with booming voices that sound as though they lugged an amplifier on with them.
Also, I forgot my nail clippers in my mad rush to get outta the house and catch the train. Ugh.


@Kagus: I know Bernard Fanning and who knows, I may have heard that particular ditty before, but I've no idea. I can't even remember what it sounded like now, a few hours later.

They might be American.  Some localities have the "volume" problem.

I'm not going to go into which form of pollution is worse but there was an interesting bit of cognitive dissonance at work a while back.

Our Turkish CEO who currently lives in Germany stopped by and we had a chat. She described the various places she's been worldwide and said that, while she wanted to live in the US at one point, she couldn't bring herself to do it. Because we've all got big cars. She said this to the dude with a Jetta and the other dude with a car equally as small. Also we have plastic bags everywhere and that's bad for the environment.

Like... Do you know what we do here? We write software to manage computers. On my desk alone are eight work-provided devices full of gold and lithium. The room next door has at least a hundred devices in it just sitting there decaying. Our customers have tens of thousands of such devices each. And all of them are wrapped in some amount of plastic. If pollution is such a concern of yours, perhaps you shouldn't have founded a company built on it.

It's fairly unlikely. There aren't any especially high concentration of Americans anywhere i've gone in Melbourne. An American tourists aren't especially unruly.

Now, if you want loud and obnixious tourists who travel around Australia in clumps, you want the English. Loud British football hooligan alcoholic types. I've had incidents where a bunch of drunk English people were on the trams here loudly singing crude songs together. Now Americans may be loud but they don't tend to congregate in other countries in clumps and loudly sing pornographic drinking songs (while their chav gutter women folk screech with laughter).

You must understand, Yoink has very specific tastes in music, and a very rapid transition between love and hate. The goal here is to find something Yoink hates, not necessarily that's objectively terrible (although I'm sure Yoink holds that the two are necessarily inclusive ).
