Make sure you didn't press the button (combination) that turns off wifi? Or disconnect yourself through some other means.

it came back after a hard restart. but it rearranged all my icons for no reason. panic over. i rather need my computer right now.

It makes me wonder if people who get banned continue reading the forum. Like, did GWG keep reading the forum games he was in to see what became of them? Does LSP check general discussion every now and again? We'll probably never know.

No, GWG borrowed somebody's account to say goodbye after he got banned, and although I'm not sure I think he stated that banned members can't view the forum.
