Both -- You're impatient, and people are idiots these days.
One person had the nerve to come into my game to ask "y not jst join botgaem" (exact quote, obviously).
I was too appalled at the sheer idiocy of it to scorn them to death.

so true, so true.

Maybe I should just go back to ROC, a land without bots.
Full of elitists, but at least clean from bots.
bots are great, but they lack flexibility. I think they shouldn't replace normal hosting like they are doing.
Also, I can't download from some bots, so I am excluded from playing some maps.
bah.

I'll try again hosting when I have more time.
The problem i think is that bots created an artificial inflation of games... there are more games than people can play and so it is hard to get players.

The improvements in the map editor are not worth losing due to the slowed join-rate on pubbie games.
I was still able to get -enough- players for maps I liked, at least.

Bots are fine if you can find one hosting what you want to play. If not, then there's always room for one more bot. Lots of people seemed to re-migrate back to Warcraft 3, either out of nostalgia for old maps or because the custom mapping scene is better overall. I do see more people hosting (or at least the bot admins in game) than I did a year ago.

1.22, for example, introduced ability to directly execute assembler code.
That's awesome. Did people write maps that wipe out crucial files and stuff?
No, but it was pretty recent (in Warcraft 3 time, around May 2009) that it was discovered and quickly patched. Unfortunately, this broke a lot of maps who used the code innovatively (meaning doing just about anything the Starcraft 2 editor can do now), rather than maliciously, but it generally targetted people who played DotA, and allowed them to freeze your game (and your computer) and inject a trojan or do whatever else they wanted. I always kinda wondered about it, if it were possible. Also wondering if something similar is possible due to things like Rick Rolls being enabled in Starcraft 2.

Geez... I'd heard about Blizzard fixing the old 'return bug', and at the time I had to ask myself, "Why? Everybody and their mother relies on it for their advanced scripting, so why mess with it after all these years?"

If that little glitch allowed arbitrary remote code execution... I guess I can see why Blizzard fixed it after all.  ;D

I played one called "founders of the north". It is an extremely good RP based map, in which the players can hunt, fish or farm and eventually found a small village or a town.

Actually, I am very bad at describing things. but I guarantee that it is a good map, with good theme, tech tree/units and great roleplay possibilities.

that is why I asked about hosting. I wanted to host it, but it seem nobody tries to join :(
This sounds like the type of a map I would like to play. Which time zone are you in? We could play a game.

My BNet name is Grakelin. I hardly ever go on anymore, though, unless I'm going for a specific event.

Valve has filed a trademark on DOTA. Maybe Warcraft 3 will stop sucking soon.

Oh god, your right, if they do pull another Alien Swarm and make it free maybe people will play good games on WC3 again.

EDIT- Just remembered everything else kinda really sucks too. Sadness.

Johbson:

SWAT and Parasite EX mean nothing to you?

I mean, hell, the last time I logged in I shat a brick because there wasn't even a single Sheep Tag. I didn't even LIKE sheep tag that much because it was horrendously difficult to balance and every version had some sort of gamebreaker built in for one side (Particularly when the Orbs for Heroes allowing ranged vs. air first was introduced, creating a glitch that let the Wolf Riders fire ranged attacks at sheep spirits to release them then kill them again for tons of cash)

But man

Parasite EX

That game was fucking legit

And there's not a single bot for that?

Come on!

I always felt WC3 was a bit of an odd game. I loved the campaigns, but really disliked the game mechanics. It feels very.. dull. It had a game-ish feel. Most strategy games had a lot of nice graphical details telling you how your character is doing in battle. WC3 might as well be in ASCII for all the graphical detail they give you. The attack and armor types, research, etc didn't quite feel right to me. I'd give it 5 stars for campaign, 1 star for multiplayer experience, but I'm probably missing the point.

On the other hand, I loved DoTA. Didn't enjoy Heroes of Newerth. DoTA makes up for the money I paid for WC's multiplayer. It's like WC3, but only having to control the heroes.
