Whatever happened to turning the other cheek and all that?

The Westboro Baptists kicked the guy that said that's ass, and when he didn't try to fight back they assumed they were doing it right.

The Westboro Baptist Church takes the Bible's message much more literally (I think they have one of the biggest interpretations of turn the other cheek, too, which is basically you calling the other guy a woman or a slave) than many of the other religious groups.

Basically, they're what the Church would've been if it hadn't realised that it needed to change with the times.

It would be so much win if someone came cosplaying as Jesus.

I think even that's giving them too much credit. Quite frankly, I think they exist as more-or-less a troll group, existing solely to be as ridiculous as possible, since that's what gets them attention.

On a not especially related note, a (rather infamous) priest in Sweden recently decided that using the offertory, that was supposed to go towards anti-violence activity, to help a guy pay the damages he was sentenced to for beating up a 16-year old.[quote

No, they likely don't give a crap about the attention. The whole lot of 'em are lawyers; they roll in the dough through their activities. They bait people, and when they bite, sue them for all they're worth.

I think he's saying that the priest used money donated for anti-violence purposes to pay the fines of a guy who beat some kid up.

Wow. So you're saying all Christians are hypocrites for not labeling anyone who denounces them a bunch of women, because somehow that was Christ's original message? I just want to be clear on exactly what you're saying here.

Well, no, because the word hypocrites has nothing to do with anything I've just said.

Troll harder, Nikov. Troll harder.

Based on the son of Fred Phelps, and the interview he had somewhere, I think they're dead serious. (send me a PM if you want me to send you the interview he gave and don't post requests here, it will pretty much derail the topic at hand, and I'm afraid it would get a few hateful comments that might end up getting this thread locked).

Nikov, Pathos, knock it off.

Troll harder, Nikov. Troll harder.

Says the man back from his mute.

You just said WBC takes the Bible's message more literally, having the interpretation that Christ taught them to denounce their opponents as women and slaves, then said the rest of the Church left the original teaching to change with the times.

That sounds like an accusation of hypocritical conduct to me. Please, enlighten me as to how it is not.

Frankly, you guys can bash these idiots all you want. I am ashamed of them. But please do not insult 2.1 billion people while you're at it.

Which, notably, wasn't for trolling.  8)

They do. They're fundamentalists. That's how it works.

Really, go look up fundamentalism. It's what certain sects of those dang dirty Muslims are (who I'm sure you'd insult for being fundamentalists and attacking America or whatever) and that's what the Westboro Baptist Church are.

Didn't read the earlier parts of the thread because it just looked like the usual unrelated bickering.

Lastly, a quote from the Church leader:
Quote
The destruction of this nation is imminent – so start calling on Batman and Superman now, see if they can pull you from the mess that you have created with all your silly idolatry.

That's a really ridiculous thing to say for someone who has dedicated their life to serving a fictional being that does not exist (or at least, cannot be proven to exist). What is he faulting Batman enthusiasts for, not founding the Bat Church?
