Same issues here, I'm using a version of Tuffy font and still getting missing characters.

No usable version
for 34.04
so sad, my eyes bleed
from the ASCII madness
my head spins in confusion
with a glimmer of hope
we wait
for
an
update...

The entire content consists of senseless murder, a pile of faceless naked women and zero regard for human life in general, all in the service of the protagonist's base impulses. It is clearly a cry for help from a neglected, self absorbed and disempowered juvenile badly in need of affectionate guidance. What a sad, sad display.

As soon as Phoebus updates to .34.04, I can start my Community Fortress on faraway boards :)

I tried copying the df 0.34.04 release over the 0.34.03 Phoebus directory (everything except the raws dir) and it seemed to work for me (i.e. using .03 raws on a .04 binary). Just copied my old inits over and it loaded my save game fine. Marksdwarves started practicing at archery targets after a season or so, which made me happy.

DF Therapist also auto-updated to 0.34.04 ok, and dfhack does have a compatible version out, so my gameplay was mostly uninterrupted.

Ah, neat, could anyone back that up? I dont want to start a legacy fort and then realize a few years in that some stuff is broken!

The only thing which is broken are the missing letters. And it´s not even clear if it´s the fault of Phoebus. I´m playing the whole day without any problems otherwise. And when letters start missing I just wiggle the mousewheel a bit. Just a minor nuisance, nothing which should keep you from migrating to 34.04. After all, it´s just a tileset and savegames from 34.02 are compatible. So far I was too lazy to check if the missing letters appear with other gfx packs like Mayday´s or even in the Ascii version.

I just checked Mayday and there are no missing letters there that I can tell.
and running through world gen on ironhand, I also don't see any missing letters yet either.

[edit]
embarked into ironhold, no letters missing at all. This seems to be a phoebus issue.

It's an intermittent problem. You can't confirm that it won't happen.
So far I've been unable to reliably reproduce the bug, so I have no idea what is the source.
The only two things I've done with the TT font is:
1. Change the font from "DejaVu Sans" to "Consolas".
2. Change the minimum tile size required for TT from 24 to 10. (If the tile size is 10 or larger, TT is on, if it's 9 or smaller, TT is off. Phoebus is 16x16 so it's on by default unless you zoom out enough.)

I downloaded vanilla DF 34.04 and Phoebus 34.02v03, extracted them to different folders, then copied/pasted the contents of Phoebus folder on the DF folder and rewrote... it's running just fine

The only file that is both changed by the graphic pack and updated from DF 0.34.02 to DF 0.34.04 is "d_init.txt"; The new config line "[SET_LABOR_LISTS:YES]" was added to "d_init.txt".
Everything else is the same.
So it's normal that you can run DF 34.04 with Phoebus' 34.02 graphic set.

Seeing as the missing text reports started shortly after the update to 34.03, I can only conclude that a change to "dwarf fortress.exe" has created the TT bug.

Nice shades btw.

I noticed that my floor engravings now look like black images of various game objects on the floor, versus the old way of just having some white lines on the phoebus crenelated wall tileset. Is this because I carried over my phoebus graphics from the 34.02 version to the 34.04 without downloading the new set , or does it have something to do with this init setting?

That setting is supposed to stop those images from showing up.
You're not the first to have said that the engraving are showing up by default.
In my 34.04 game, engravings are working as intended, so it's most likely a compatibility issue between your 34.02 settings and 34.04.

Try downloading the graphic set package and copying the d_init.txt from the packages' "/data/init/phoebus/" to your installation's "/data/init/".

Or add these lines to your d_init.txt right after the "[IDLERS:TOP]" line:
Code: [Select]
You can have your dwarves start/arrive without any labor types enabled here by setting this to NO.

[SET_LABOR_LISTS:YES]

These change should only apply to new engravings.
To hide your current engraving, ingame use "d:Designations" -> "v:Toggle Engravings".
