who lets these kids on the internet? I'm gonna see if I can report him. MW2 lacks an in game way of reporting abuse.

What they need to do is mute people when they die. Make it more realistic.

Realistic would be deleting your live account when you die, like that Steel Battalion where dying erases your save games. In addition they would send a man to your house to smash the system with a hammer just for giggles, because they're microsoft after all.

Online shooters in particular seem to be prone to this sort of thing. I still say they shouldn't let anyone who's balls haven't dropped be able to use voice chat; half the time it just sounds like the adults from Charlie Brown on helium sped up to chipmunk speed. My ears, they bleed.

there is a mute all by default option in the game which i use. this kid was typing out all his insults to circumvent this. would love to be able to mute his typing.

I was reported in Guild Wars for stringing out a 4v4 match. Our random group was determined to win (for the points you get after certain chain victories) and got two monks, so many games ended up in stalemates. We essentially waited them out, after around 8 minutes one frustrated opponent would leave, making it 3 on 4, then others would drop out.

One group didn't like that, and reported the monks for 'conspiring'. No warning occured so it was harmless

(We won 18 consecutive rounds, until there was a ranger and mesmer in a group, which royally screw with healers)

Its been a while, but I got banned from Ultima Online many years ago when I blew up everyone at the Britain bank using explosion potions on pack animals. There technically wasn't a rule against it, but they said I was straining the server (the initial deaths of people in full gear led to wave after wave of newbies getting guard whacked trying to loot them, and the whole area was super lagged for a good 10 minutes with corpses and items everywhere).

The first ban was a week if I remember correctly, which kinda pissed me off and inevitably was the proverbial straw that broke the camels back, making me decide to stop playing. The second ban was permanent when I came back and immediately did it again and tried to pretend it was someone else :D It probably didn't help that there was apparently an invisible GM there who saw me do it.

I was bored of the game by that time anyway, though - they had added Trammel and the game was going in directions that I didn't like.

I had my name changed in Dark Age of Camelot after some goofball reported it repeatedly. It was an alt I was goofing around with on a different server and realm named Yous Uck. The funny thing is I think I convinced the first GM that it wasn't what it looked like and that the name was just an unintentional english combination of two traditional Asian names, so he didn't change it. The next GM said I had to change it, and I *almost* got them to change it to Cann Abis (he said OK at first) but last minute he apparently realized what I was doing and made me change it to something else.

I had people tell me they were reporting my name on Shadowbane numerous times, but it never did get changed. Had a character named Besti Ality, a centaur. Although, in their defense, the GMs never really did anything in that game so likely never even saw the name.

"Your city is bugged out and is changing ownership to a random player every few hours without any siege happening? I'm sorry, we can't help in siege related issues. *5 hours later, a new GM arrives* But how do we know it's really YOUR city? The ownership of all the other buildings, you say? *5 minutes later* Alright, I've removed the *entire* city in question. Here is a seed to build a new city tree and some deeds to plant more buildings. Oh, I'm sorry - I can't return the city or the barracks or the npcs to their former levels or rebuild the walls or give you back any of the items in that shop I accidentally deleted too since I didn't bother looking at them first and don't know what you had before I fucked everything up. Have a nice day." (that was actually a true story... made me and 50 or so of my guildies quit lol).

I'm just glad to see I'm not the only one who finds Huesoo's antics annoying.  I'm not concerned with being impartial about that.

I got in trouble on quite a few MUDs when I first immigrated to the Internet.  I was young, restless, irritating, and idiotic and got muted and blocked by a lot of people.

I've never been banned, but I was run out of town on a rail on another forum.  It was a little political-discussion forum, and I was apparently too right-wing for them.  No really.  Buncha elite-liberal Eurotrash.  That and the only other guy who was waaay to my right but somehow had seniority protection or something kept starting arguments that I'd try to interject into, only to be crushed between immovable objects and spat out sideways.  It's long dead though, so fuck those guys.

Of late it seems more religious and political arguments take place on these forums.I'm relatively new account-wise,but have been lurking for about 2 years or so.Debate is fine, but many take it too far.

When i first made an account on a different forum,i tended to post my opinion.I'm a bit on the right-side politically,so it ended up with one leftist guy creating multiple accounts to spam me with how wrong i was,I'm a stupid American,so on so forth.

So if one of only two non-liberal-elites (Or at least not liberal elite enough for them) got chased off, it's not much of a discussion is it?  It's more of a circle-jerk.

Just this morning I got a warning from Toady because I joked that "Acanthus117 loved child pornography" when he said he didn't want to use the porno mode in Princess Maker because he didn't like "nekkid animu".  The odd thing was, Toady seemed to think I have a problem with Acanthus, which I didn't up until now.  I mean, it's a thread about a game with a built in porno mode where you raise a young girl...

This thread really makes me think the report link is pointless.  All it seems to be used for is blooding Toady and ThreeToe's inboxes with the complaints of immature people.  I personally remember at least one time where someone I was arguing with was muted for no apparent reason.  I think it was actually that instance Architect was talking about earlier in this thread.  Toady and ThreeToe can't take the time to make sure every report is actually justified, so I think it would be a lot better if we just kept it analogue as it were.  If someone wants to complain they can send a PM.  That way they can just take a glance at it and say, "This person is raving incoherently.  I think I shall ignore their report." Instead of either having to wade through the actual thread, or make an uninformed judgment call based solely on the number of reports.

I pretty much never use the report button on forums.  In fact I don't actually ever remember using it.

Let's see though.  I remember once being temp banned from a sub section of www.online-roleplaying.com for expressing a negative opinion about 4th edition D&D in the 4th Edition D&D discussion thread.  Another time I make an april fool's joke about something happening to one of the moderators on that forum and he deleted it but I don't remember him banning me or anything.  I also remember an instance of one of them editing my post into something really stupid apparently just to embarrass me.  I don't post in the discussion threads on that forum anymore.

On Myth-Weavers.com they have this one literally totalitarian Admin who has stated on multiple occasions that he thinks freedom of speech is a detriment to society which has no redeeming value, and that saying offensive things should be a crime.  Once the GM of one of my games said ooc that I should ask Michael about something, though I believe he was referring to an NPC of that name which I hadn't even met yet at the time.  I sent a joke PM to Michael the admin, which in hindsight was stupid because I already knew what an uptight asshole the guy was, but anyway I sent back an PM full of insults to my intelligence, and a threat that if the only reason I wasn't banned yet was because he had checked my post count and saw how large it was and so was giving 24 hours to explain myself.  I explained the joke and he immediately went into the forum on that game and yelled at my GM for encouraging his players to spam me.  Short story shorter.  Avoid Michael.  I actually kind of wonder that NPC is based on the admin of the same name, because they're both aggressive bullying jerks.  The NPC just happens to have the redeeming value of being our aggressive bullying jerk.

I seem to remember getting reported in Planetside once for killing someone and then responding in a way they didn't like when they started whispering verbal abuse at me.

I've only used the Report function once, and I think it was perfectly justified.  Helping make a new forum game, when some guy showed up and outright said he was hanging around to crap on the idea and insult people.  Reported, and banned.  Works for me.

So if one of only two non-liberal-elites (Or at least not liberal elite enough for them) got chased off, it's not much of a discussion is it?  It's more of a circle-jerk.

You caught on a lot faster than I did.  Oh I tried to reason with them, and I wasn't exactly alone.  But nothin' doin' in the end.  The good sign from it all that this one crazy dude who kept insisting all the world's problems could be cured by American factory workers rising up in bloody anarcho-communist revolution was beyond the pale even for them.  But then the crappy webcomic the forum spawned from went on permanent hiatus and everyone left.  Good experience in the end, I suppose.

Cthulhu, please don't turn this into a "bash the people I disagree with or simply don't understand by calling them liberal-elitists even when that isn't a relevant term" thread.

He didn't.  I called them elitist (y'know, Elite Liberal, reference to Liberal Crime Squad?) because that's exactly what they were, over at that other forum I was talking about.  You might want to uncock that hair-trigger.

Yep,circle-jerk would describe many, many small forums out there. They have their opinion and if you don't agree 100% then pack your bags.
I doubt anyone from the internet is going to change my opinion on a lot of things, but that doesn't mean I'm in the right, and i enjoy it when someone starts a discussion about it.When people start to troll, and argue for arguments sake is when it degrades.

Hah, our topic has been edited and the rant/responses concerning Huesoo were blanked. Confused me quite a bit trying to find my place.

Ioric, please don't start an argument by responding negatively to a post you dislike when anyone else who disagreed was willing to look it over. It's a much more mature and healthy response.
You get in a lot of arguments, if you haven't noticed.

Sorry, Cthulhu is just very heavily conservative in his views so any time he says "liberal" or "elitist" I cringe at the though of how he may be misusing the terms.
