okay so I didn't expect to see this old buddy but in an attempt to test out resurrection I just got reincarnated as a human bard 97 z levels below the fort.
like wow Body swap with out use of dfhack.

So uhh yeah got killed by a pike human at the foot of a dwarf fort, now jumped into the body of a human bard in the dwarf fort I think someone walk towards cish's lifeless body to cause this.

oh man so I just walk past Cish and had a convo with my now undead self.

Don't purge the reverent because that's MY BODY. besides I was planning to raise cish/myself from the dead... just that now I have to track down Cish and get her to join me on adventurers or as a band.
like the quest log still tracks Cish's knowledge on things.

Also, I think this time I'll be an animal man maceman, to see if flails are still decent zombie killers. Then again, my tests revealed mauls to be highly unpredictable (ranging from one-hit-kills to a dozen+ hits), so the Adventurecraft buffs to large weapons might prove useful...

I have recruited all of the guards via the "join and be rescued" trick, and Lady Shessat has given me an order. At last, asking about "duties as a hearthperson" does something!

We march for Crestholes, assuming we don't intercept the skulking villains along the way.

I gave [POWER] to them which is why I used the interaction to butcher them, this is too fascinating a random thing to encounter to make them dumb again.

I have located the cave, and began purging the campsites around it. Hoping that their leader hasn't already departed.

Hoo boy I have a real doozy of a story to tell. It is quite an interesting turn of events, though perhaps not the most bizarre or unlikely. It is however my first real experience in seeing just how deep and complex the worlds can be in this game.

It all started when I was told by my lord of a criminal organisation in the neighboring town down the road a bit. Being a good hearthperson and seeker of justice I went to investigate. Searched high and low for the gang in question and eventually found them in the dungeons of the cathedral just across from the castle. For some reason they didn't attack me outright so I started chatting with some of the members. Asked them about any troubles to see if they would mention their own gang or something like that. They tell me there is an army on the move, heading toward a nearby town named Seizedvise. I squeeze them for some more information and they tell me that the army is being led by a man named oatcurls who lives in a distant town called Aleseals which I presume the army is marching from. I wondered exactly how they knew about this information, but my first thought was "oh no I gotta warn people about this!", so I execute their overlord and book it to go warn the people.

On my way I spotted a couple of travelers on the edge of the next hamlet over. I stop to say hello and ask them where they are going, and oh boy this is where it gets interesting, they tell me they are headed home to ALESEALS! I ask them about any troubles and they tell me that there is an army marching out toward Seizedvise! I may be jumping to conclusions, but I think it was these two who were responsible for planting the rumor in the first place. I don't really know what their intentions may have been, so I decide to leave them alive, besides i'm not a cold blooded murderer or anything like that.
So I travel to Seizedvise and decide that if anyone should be warned it's the lord and the other high ranking officials. I tell everyone in the main hall about what's coming and to evacuate with me. Unfortunately most of them had no family to return to, so I had to leave them behind, but one with a strange title, called the High Cavern, tells me that they have a father living in another town on the opposite coast of the same ocean named Ismir.

I travel there having no idea how I am going to find this guy. A tavern called the Buttery Onion nearby the castle. I figure that the barkeep must know a lot of the people in town, right? I come to find out that Ismir once worked in this tavern! But not only that but the barkeep referred to him as a human vampire! So at this point I am just way too interested to not know more and I turn to the legend viewer. I look this guy up and find out that he had become a vampire for no apparent reason by knocking over statues in the town's cathedral, then he went out and got into a bit of a brawl with a bronze colossus in which he had his leg severely injured. He comes back to town and is made a lord. I guess his leg got better after that because since then all he has done is hold foot races...a weird hobby for a vampire with a broken leg to have. Maybe it's because of his status as lord, but he hasn't been suspected of murdering any of his 200 victims.
After discovering this information I went to the castle and dropped off the High Cavern, then I promptly accused Ismir of being a vampire. He wasn't happy about it, but he didn't really attack me or anything. I would have attacked him, but I was worried that doing so in a room full of armed soldiers would be too much fun.   

He got away, and his youngest daughter, who is also an adventurer it seems, has become the new lady of the town. Who knows if she will ever come back to take proper charge of her new station. It may be my opportunity to simply rule in her place if she never shows up. Now i'm in the dungeons searching for Ismir who has utterly vanished, but he can't have gone far and I doubt that he would show himself above ground now that he is an enemy of several kingdoms.

Still mucking about trying to find the army marching on us. Damn near wiped out the hostiles around the cave, but no sign of the important targets. Odd, it's all humans, elves, and dwarves wearing kobold gear, with a kobold-style civ name, but no apparent kobolds.

EDIT: I have thoroughly sweeped the area. Every potential hostile around the cave I could find has been intercepted and eliminated. Only one way I can see this ending. We must enter the cave.
