Hell, there is even starting to be some divisions in this community that I fear will drive us all apart in three years or so. And I am powerless to stop the pains caused to the community if it happens.
:(

Quote from: Armok
Basically, you die, are at the mercy or anything, is put through a lotus eater machine and have your mind warped again, and then you're resurrected. You spend half your time in this state... and that's only the beginning, easily-put-into-words top of the iceberg...

Sleep is not an undesirable process. It's necessary. Feeling afraid of it by overthinking the process is understandable, but pointless. Being consistently afraid of it is mental illness. All of the risks of sleeping are, as I said, part of the necessary process, and anyone blessed with a shred of common sense or even human instinct will do his or her best to minimise those risks.

Besides, your brain is hardly "put through a lotus eater machine and(...) warped". You temporarily imagine that you receive sensory input, some of which you may or may not remember.

Mortality as a concept, that which I likely may at some point not exist, scares me. Means or process of death do not.
You're missing the point entierly. I could try to explain it better, but thatd only fail, and some of the core reasons are things I'm not comfortable telling on a public forum anyway.

What scares me right now is Tsunamis, course it probably won't be too bad.

Wich reminds me of another fear: sleep. Basically, you die, are at the mercy or anything, is put through a lotus eater machine and have your mind warped again, and then you're resurrected. You spend half your time in this state... and that's only the beginning, easily-put-into-words top of the iceberg...

I'm lucky.  I tend to have very normal dreams, largely revolving around math and/or problem-solving.

As for what I'm afraid/terrified of, there's two things.  The first is failure to realize my ambitions.  The second is completely detaching myself from humanity as I fulfill those ambitions.  It's a double-edged sword, unfortunately.

Eternal life, as in perminantly eternal. Nothing worse to find out that there is nothing more to explore. Eternal in the form of getting killed by falling into the sun is fine with me though :)

That last gobbo would stand there, missing an arm, punctured in a kidney, liver, and spleen, fading in and out of consciousness at the far end of where the drawbridge would go, and his last sight would be the drawbridge dropping down and smashing him like a bug.

I have a nightmare about a tornado about once every other week. Probably has something to do with 2 or 3 tornadoes that blow through this place a year. About a month ago, I literally watched a column of swirling death descend into the middle of town.

An infinity of nothing after death. Seriously, every time I start to think about it my mind blanches.
My exact feelings on the matter.

Nighmares have nothing to do with my fear of sleep really. I tend not to remember dreams.

I have good news! As long as you limit eternity to a countable infinity, I'm pretty sure Gödels incompleteness theorem means that can't happen, because there's infinite maths to explore. Vector can probably explain this better.

I'm utterly terrified of people seemingly being missing when they should be around or not showing up when they usually do. All because of something that happened late last year that traumatized me pretty badly.

I don't know what to do about it. It's dominating my therapy now. I fear this more than anything now.

Infinities are really more about "density" than "length."  But in any case, yes--you will never run out of math.  Ever.

Heights, Insects/arachnids with long legs, Looking up at a distant ceiling or the sky (freaks me out for some reason), people who always smile, and the empty eye sockets of a skull with rotting meat still on it.

XKCD sums it nicely http://xkcd.com/706/. Everything is always just a twitch away from a backhand and some chaos.

Having to accept the Butterfly effect also scares me. I regret some past actions, but the second I could change them, I'm no longer in the same state. I'm just not the same Me anymore, and that concept just gets to me.

I was always suspicion about the butterfly effect. Surely something as big as a tsunami could occur without a butterfly flapping it's wings. The flapping just helped.
