Just started playing Call of Pripyat.  Doing the tutorial-quest to get the Altered Wheel for Beard.  As anyone who has done this knows, when you step out of the ship, if you don't hand over the wheel, the game goes into Cutscene Mode, so you're suddenly standing between three guys with guns and you can't do anything about it because the controls are taken away from you while they calmly walk into view.  Not being able to do anything about stuff you can see coming is definitely not the Stalker ethos.  So question: does that kind of thing happen often in the game?  Or does it just do that because this is the "instruction quest", like that balls-hard garage mission in Chernobyl?

I've played a bit furthur and the only other time I've had control taken away was when I got close to a group of guys and was forced to listen to them stand around and talk for a little bit while the failed to notice me.  Then I got control back and my buddies attacked them, which I think they would have done anyway so it wasn't really a big deal  And there are a few times you are teleported places if you say you want to do or go somewhere but that's more a matter of convenience than taking control away since you had the choice not to trigger it.

What I found works best with that quest you're on Aqizzar is to give him the stuff then pull your gun out and shoot his buddies when he starts to leave, then him before he gets away.  You can usually hit one of his buddies in the head before they realize you're attacking.  Also, the guy will try to run for it once he gets the stuff, but if you manage to wing him with a bullet before he gets away he'll stop and try to kill you instead.

But then you don't get the loot from his buddies or have a reason to shoot him for that matter.

It's quest item. I usually kill the guys from inside the ship because you can see them out the window.

My strategy was to drop the thing, talk to the guy and pretend to give it to him, get to Beard first, and bam, 2000 extra Rubles.

I gave it to him the first time, second time i just shot him in the face. And no i don't think that happens alot, only a few times to show or emphasize something, like when you first arrive at Yanov you get a little chat with Nitro who informs you that he's the local techie and if you need anything drop by him. Also i suggest you go behind the burnt campsite anomaly, a neat little thing awaits you ;)

A TV show?!  :O

Man screw STALKER, I'm just going to think of it as a less-than-completely-faithful "Roadside Picnic" adaptation and go with it.  Take some of the social drama of life along the border from Roadside Picnic, and make the Zone not quite so utterly, ridiculously fatal to every damn thing kinda like STALKER.

I really look forwards to what they do with CG and the Grinder.  I guess I'm morbid D:

I think somethink along the lines of the movie would be nice, portraying the life of a Stalker or a group of them who get a job of escorting a journalist into the zone, then we see all the silly mistakes he will make and all the horrible stuff that can happen.

Bull.  Believe me, I've looked.  The spawn when you deal with the script, you can't see them from inside the ship.

I just didn't want to kill the guy for no reason.  I always like to give guys who aren't confirmed hostile the chance to fire the first shot.  The problem is, nine times out of ten that first shot winds up in my temple.

Which is why you wait until they are confirmed hostile and then take the first shot.  After you give them the artifact. :)

I've just notice that this sweet modpack has been released for the latest expansion to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

http://www.moddb.com/mods/call-of-pripyat-complete

I'm redownloding CoP from Steam currently and I'll try out the mod later today. The trailer looks breathtaking and I'm looking forward to the feature list.

Thought I'd share.
