completed clear sky with a trs301 chambered for soviet rounds and the sunrise suit. Having played shadow of chenobyl the ending was a mite predicatable.

now started call of pryprat - much more open. Is it just me or are the anomalies in this game basically harmless compared with the death traps in the previous games. You can just run through loads of em to pick up the artifact(s)

also pistols seem alot better, i took down a merc base with my trusty Hm using soviet rounds. Zombies are also much easier to take down in this version, in shadow of chenobyl they were pretty solid.

of the three so far id say the best was shadow of chenobyl with the oblivion lost mod installed.

Yeah, CoP's Zone is pretty harmless and annoyingly so. Even the radiation isn't a proper threat anymore. I think you should definitely download a mod that makes the radiation effects and such more harmful. Redux is probably good too but I haven't tested it yet(I don't know if it's out yet). I found that SMRTR mod was pretty damn awesome but it's still unfinished and it bugs me that some of the new weapons it adds don't have proper reloading animations.

I concur that SoC with Oblivion Lost 2.2 was the best and the most atmospheric experience.

Fucks up the interface and changes a lot of dialog to russian. And some other stuff, ostensibly, but with the ruined interface it's not like you're going to play long enough to run across any of it.

That's just, like, your opinion, man.

Sarcasm aside, I've played through STALKER with OL and I did enjoy it, and the free-roam being given to you upon completion of the good end is nice along with the faction warfare you get upon getting aforementioned good-end. It's great having all the guns actually be fairly accurate too, as well as being able to repair equipment at the various traders (even if you have to pay out the nose for it). Bleeding is a pain in the ass to manage, though, since it doesn't stop on its own anymore unless you bandage it or have anti-bleeding artifacts equipped. There's various other things, too, like cut monsters getting restored (although I can see why some were cut).

Yes, I liked the interface. Felt nicely minimalistic.

I was like, ha, this looks like a pretty dumb and boring game. I was so wrong. Gentlemen, I have discovered true fun.

Repairing would be great. I have enough Rubles to buy literally more gear than I can carry.

from memory

oblivion lost;

clips off the end of the story so you can keep playing

introduces a sleeping bag so you can sleep

introduces blow outs that you have to shelter from

moves all the anomalies around / drops new artifacts after each blow out

improves the ai, makes warring factions do more stuff

takes out alot of the interface (i didnt find this an issue and shouldnt be if your reasonably competant at shooters or have played the game before)

and adds a crap load of guns and equipment (mostly guns from the two other games)

it is a bit buggy (the heavy machine gun doesnt work)

because it takes off the end of the storyline and because the interface may be too little for some i dont recommend installing it on your first play through

The heavy machineguns do work but only if you're wearing an exoskeleton. I didn't learn this very quickly as I usually don't wear exos unless I'm in the Chernobyl NPP and even then I tend to use the Skat 9-M which doesn't allow you to wield the MG.

Also, try the Arsenal Mod with OL if you can get it to work. It adds a fuckton of different weapons and more variety into the mix.

Also, after you join a faction you can recruit that faction's NPCs to follow you around so you can sorta build your own stalker squad. They won't follow you to underground areas but they can move between other levels just fine. You can also now sell weapons and equipment to NPCs so you can give them weapons you want them to use but it's kinda tricky since some stalkers will hold onto their sawn-off even if you give them a high-end rifle(I gave them RPGs a couple of times but they are kinda careless with it so hilarity will often result).

Both STALKER games are in a bundle for $10, why haven't you bought it yet? (Clear Sky doesn't count.)

I got CoP during the sale.  Already had SoC, but never finished it.  I played first time with OL and although I didn't have any of the problems with bugs and the interface I did have a problem with all the important NPCs that give you quests getting headshotted by random attacks so that I couldn't do them and get stuff.  I think I eventually got lost and couldn't figure out what to do anymore.  I did get some really loverly guns though.  The first blow out was insanely intense.  I took a nap in the first town and suddenly awoke, feeling something was off.  I was sleeping in a basement and suddenly a bunch of Stalkers run in and join me with their guns out.  Obviously I panicked at first and took out my own gun, but they all turned to face the doorway instea of shooting me so I did the same.  Then all hell broke loose outside for a about 5 minutes.  At least that's what it felt like.

The second one was even scarier because I was sleeping in my bag next to a camp fire with a couple of fellow Stalkers who were playing music.  It was pitch black out, and I tucked in to get some shuteye while the other two guys kept watch with their guitars.  Then I woke up again.  Both my buddies were looking around with their gun's out and something was off in the sky.  Then the shaking started and they both started running, and I was like "OH SHIT!!!"  And followed them as fast as I could with nothing but our flashlights leading the way.  We ran for what seemed like more than a minute until we reached this tunnel and hunkered down in it.  I was really glad I'd cleared it of dogs earlier.

So, question.  Should I finish SoC before I play CoP?  Also, any good mods for it?  Oh yeah, and something that I've been wondering about... are there any female characters in any of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games?

I don't think so, and probably if there're some, they are disguised to look like men.

I mean, really, it's a zone, a huge isolated and very violent place without any laws and with many males. Any woman would be raped, killed and then raped again 100x times. It's not Fallout3 where you can be a girl in a dress and live alone in a wasteland.

Also they could lack female voice actors :P.

For those who haven't clicked on their S.T.A.L.K.E.R. link in their Steam library in the past couple days - Stalker is going to be a TV show.  I don't have a fucking clue what that's going to be like, but I know it's gonna be awesome.

I can't help but laugh at the idea.

Also, any of you guys submitting GSC some S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Quest ideas? I probably couldn't, don't have anytime or anything to help me. Pretty sure you guys could do it.
