I don't think using spiders as masturbatory aids is a good idea.

What does furtively mean?

When did this game go this way?

Wait...

Found it
> wear underwear on head
and
You wear the dead man's underwear on your head. It's pretty disgusting.

We've already seen the spider.  It's giant.  It tried to kill us.  I say we try to find some planks to lay over the pit.  That we we wont fall in.

We should throw the torch at it, is what I mean. Or something like that. Didn't we get some decent weapons a while back?

Yes we did, but getting at it requires going in the pit, getting out was hard/dangerous last time.

The spider also has more than enough organ liquefying venom for EVERYBODY!!

Note that you now have access to the HEALING, LIGHT, and DIVINATION rituals. But that each use consumes Something Important.

HEALING requires you to specify a target, which you must touch.
LIGHT works the same way.
DIVINATION is a hint. Specify what you want to know about. If you do not specify, you receive a hint for one of your current main obstacles.

You head down the stairs, past the pit and south past the glowing blue faces. The hallway turns West and you continue that way, ignoring the side passages.

Now you're at the pit right before the ramp down to Level 4. Man this thing is a pain. You try the old method: put some weight on the pit trap doors to set it off, then throw the Iron Spike tied to your rope so it wedges into the gap between pit door and floor on the opposite side.

You set the pit off just fine. Below you can see the bowl-shaped pit floor with the block from the secret exit, and your mace leaning against it.

Then you whirl the rope in a circle a few times and throw the Iron Spike. It sails across the pit intersection easily, trailing the firm, supple leather rope behind it. It looks like you're about to miss, and start to reel in the rope for another try before the pit closes.

But suddenly the rope snaps and twists in midair, and the Iron Spike tied to it slams down into the gap.

... yeah, Ricky "Illinois" Louis is just that good ladies and gentlemen.

You quickly scrabble across and retrieve your Iron Spike and coil up your rope.

Down the ramp to the West, which turns South into Level 4. You head West into the unexplored intersection.

You're now in the middle of the intersection. There's a dry bloodstain here on the floor with drag marks leading back East.

To the west is a short passage leading to a large triangular room. The ceiling is in darkness far above. The room narrows to the West, eventually to a point. Flanking that point are a pair of big metal statues holding their spears crossed over the middle. They look like Amazon fighting-women. Beyond them, at the point of the room, is a raised stone platform and upon that is a dusty black lacquered chest. The chest has a big golden lock built into the front.

 Yes, this looks dangerous.

Imagine a cool peice of sky-blue and milk-white marble about 3cm by 2cm and by 0.5cm, containing a tiny 2mm malacolite crystal. Now imagine the miles of metamorphic rock it's embedded in that no pick or chisel will ever touch. Then, imagine that those miles will melt back into their mantle long before any telescope even refracts an image of their planet. The watchers will be so excited to have that image too.

You're about to open the black lacquered chest with the brass moon key, but as you approach a little voice in your head says that it looks an awful lot like a trap. Hrm. Maybe this deserves more thought. Almost everything up 'till now has been a trap ...

You go back upstairs and grab a bowl. You come back down across the pit and down the ramp. It's pretty dangerous, but you are a Man of Danger. You regard your muscles fondly.

Using the bowl you collect some black gunk from the black fountain, and let it slop into the acid pool. The gunk floats on the surface sizzling and slipping around like a boiled egg on an iced dinner plate. It gives off a nasty smoke, and eventually dissolves. The gunk, now in particles, settles to the bottom and is gone.

With the bowl, you carefully collect some acid and tiptoe over to the spider. You pass the black fountain, which sits there glistening as usual. You creep up and spot the spider, and throw the acid at it!

A direct hit! The spider flips out and scuttles up into its webbing. You lose sight of it.
