Break up a wood stick into little bits, dip them in oil.
Go to the mold room, light the oil-dipped end on fire. Throw at the mold.

You go down to the turtle fountain and grab a bunch of wood pieces, then go back up to the "oil" room on Level 1. There's one urn of oil, with 90% oil in it. You break up the wood pieces into small chunks. You refill your scumlamp with oil and then soak the wood pieces in oil also. The urn is now at 80% and your scumlamp is full.

You light your torch, light a wood piece and throw it into the room. You repeat until you're out of oily wood, and you put out your torch to save it.

The mold inside is curling up and burning profusely in patches all around the room. The wave of heat spreads, and the wooden cubbies start to smolder too. But the fire isn't strong enough to actually light them up. It dies down, and the spores settle and burn up, and eventually the room stops burning. Much of the smoke goes up an air vent in the back.

The room is now very charred, and still warm. The mold is dry and crackly and isn't giving up spores anymore. Spots of dim red light are scattered throughout the room.

You make sure your torch is lit again, and inch your way into the room. It smells very smoky, but it's breathable.

As you move farther in, you see that the cubbies on the walls hold baked ceramic tablets with triangular writing on them. As you brush some ashes off one of them, you feel very lucky these people didn't write on paper.

There is no more living mold in the room.

On one of the tables you find more tablets, a few stylus that fit the marks they made, a pair of Metal Gauntlets, and a stunningly beautiful Golden Medallion. It's a circle with a square hole in the middle, and is covered in intricate writing.

There are three tablets in particular that catch your eye. They bear pictures as well as writing. Each seems to show a ritual that you could easily follow if you wanted. It looks like you have to give up something important to finish the ritual.

One ritual seems to create light.

Another heals.

The last is divination.

You grab the Gold Medallion and head back downstairs to the Turtle Fountain.

(You blow out the torch, as you no longer need it. Your Scumlamp is still lit)

You press the Gold Medallion into the sealed stone door. Immediately a dense, honeylike golden light washes out from behind it and the door unseals, splitting down the middle. The doors slide apart into the walls at the slightest touch. The golden light still pours out of the Gold Medallion set in the door.

Beyond is a dead-end room with shelves. It looks pretty empty. But there's a weird place in the middle of the room where the dust just hangs in the air. It's like a block made of suspended dust, about two feet across.

Whatever it is, it seems solid. Just not visible. You poke a few more times and end up shaking some of the dust off. You can pass the torch behind it, and you can still see the torch. So it's not like a chameleon thing. It's a solid block that you can see through. The dust was just laying on it.

More prodding suggests that it's fairly smooth except for a panel of some kind on the front. You'd have to feel with your hands or a finer tool to get more information.

You check out the shelves. There are some folded garments that crumble at the slightest touch. Unless you count a Thick Layer of Dust as loot, you're pretty disappointed.

carefully prod panel, and if it doesn't kill us, poke with any stick/stick like object we have.

You grab the Thick Layer of Dust. Angels sing.

...

...

You now have a Thick Layer of Dust.

You poke the panel with your torch. Nothing happens.

You go back to the Turtle Fountain and grab an Iron Spike to prod the panel with. Your shenanigans with the dust have coated the object quite thoroughly, and you can tell that this is some kind of invisible box with a lock on the front.

You really inspect this invisible panel. You don't learn anything new. You can't really tell what sort of key it requires. A key larger than the ones you're used to, by the look of the hole. Like the bigger keys you imagine a big old lock like this one uses.

You smack the panel pretty hard, shaking off a lot of dust. The box doesn't move at all. Seems sturdy.
