Are you using Real Stars? Because if you are, from what I remember, due to the kinds of stars generated and therefore the kind of planets it generates for them (if any), it generally takes quite more time to find any NPRs than otherwise.

Just to point out, you really only NEED to do squadron transits if you're doing an assault through the jump point.  If you're not jumping into combat, all you really NEED is one ship with a (big enough) jump drive.  Move it to the jump point (either side), and then you can give as many other non-jump ships as you want "standard transit" orders to jump through that point...

Holy crap. I didn't know that.

And I just, redesigned, everything.

Well next time around I'm totally doing that.

Yep, Real Stars.

Unknown to most but the insane and the mystics, Tarran is actually Earth itself, as Earth is sentient like that planet in Avatar. Originally Earth used names such as Terra on the internet, but to protect it's identity it changed letters, now becoming the Tarran you know today.

I usually turn NPR generation chance up to 90% or so. Suitable planets are rare enough that it's nice to have something to subjugate when I eventually do get a system with Earth 2.

And if you want someone !NOW! I'm pretty sure that's one of the parameters that can be changed any time, and will be applied to the next systems you enter...

So what is a recipe for a good early military? I have been reading Ad Astra per Aspera by Bremen, and I got some conclusions from that:

- Missiles are fucking OP
- Beam weapons are long-range, good for heavy ships
- Lasers are mid-range, better for escorts and gunboats
- Railguns are short-ranged, nice for stationary platforms and heavy ships for defensive phase

I do believe at least 1 of these is wrong, so I'd be grateful if you guys could clear these things out.

Personally I'm a fan of heavily armored missile boats. Easier to design, no need to be faster than the opponent, just stand your ground and shoot the enemy.

Aye, but before I get to missiles, do you have any tips for non-missile combat?

I like gauss fighter spam. They works well as point defences until the enemy gets bored of shooting at you and can complement mise damages once enemy is out of ammo

Note that you need not to skimp to much on range. Because of turns/initiative, you're better of with fighters shooting at a range twice than the enemy movement at each turn increment

(I.e. enemy speed is 10km/s, you need 50km range minimum to even be able to shoot at it, 100km as a safer margin)

Okay, gotcha. So one of the best things w/o missiles is just swarm the enemy with fast and accurate weapons until they run out of torpedoes.

Kind of other thing - how to manfuacture a 'dome'? Bremen mentioned these and I do not know if it is an actual dome ingame, or if it has a different name.

well, there is no such thing as a 'best' in this game. I just like it that way, for the extra star wars feeling.

If someone is using it and it's effective, that's enough for me.

And now the game refuses to advance more than 5 seconds. Everytime I advance, it advances only by 5 or 10 seconds, which isn't even possible. Any suggestions?

My guess is that somebody is fighting. Turn on SM mode and check out the event log: does it say that somebody's fighting?

Yeah, the
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
is having some fun with some 'Riflemen'. Can I make it so that it doesn't stop the time advance?

Nope. You can only turn on auto turns and wait it out, you can't have it not affect the time advance, because the game needs it at 5 seconds to simulate combat.
