Just drop the engineering brigade on a planet and it will give you the same effect as if you had a (yes, an entire one) construction factory there. They don't need population to run, either.

Did not know that engineering brigades could do that!
Yeah, but they're insanely slow. I think they're slower than a factory, plus they need huge troop transports to get anywhere. I rarely use them.

What?

They have the exact same output as a normal construction factory and 5x troop transport components combine for a total of 250HS while the 5x cargo hold to move a construction facility combine for 500HS. The only real downside to engie transportation is that you can't rely on civilians to do the work for you.

The only reason they come off as being slow is that they're difficult to mass produce unless you make a concentrated effort to build up your ground force training facilities. You can even milk your current ground force training buildings for everything they're worth by transporting them to Luna with a 50k orbital habitat (They don't need workers, but the 0% manufacturing efficiency that comes with zero colonists present will shut'em down) and assigning a civilian with the highest ground force training bonus to be gov.

F2 -> "GU Training" tab.

You might need to research'em, though.

So, has anyone built a massive colony ship yet? Millions of people, infrastructure, factories, a way to refill gas, jump through gates, ect.

Its difficult to do because you have to be on a planet to use factories, and the jump drives will be so goddamn huge that it may be easier to include jumpgate building modules and build a jumpgate at each point.

I believe the proper term is "Space Station"

Hell, I might cheat a little when I get home and make a year 3000 start where I have a mothership capable of transporting and housing the entire population of earth just to see how feasible it is.

It'd probably be huge. Like, in the neighborhood of a few million tons, if you want to have it able to house more than just people.

It will be considerably larger than a few million tons. More like several trillion.

I'll try to make one as well.

Obviously, the whole navy should fit in the ship's hangars.

Name it the "Artificial Earth Mark I"

And make sure it is covered in enough lasers to shoot down a whole fleet in a single volley if you can do both at the same time.

Honestly compared to the tonnage required for an orbital habitat for several billion people, the weapon tonnage will be miniscule in comparison for even ridiculous firepower.

3,000,206,100 tons

Orbital habitats added :P

I initially thought about making it a commercial ship, but adding a million engineering spaces won't really make it that much bigger anyway.

EDIT: I get errors when trying to add military components, I think the game is trying to tell me something.
Military parts will be given to parasite ships than..

Hangar decks are military parts, and making the ship military causes overflow errors.

It should at least have an insane amount of CIWS coverage.
