And you don't need a population for maintenance modules - you can just hit the "add colony" button on some asteroid, put your maintenance ships in orbit, and drop down some minerals on the rock and they will maintain ships up to the max size (which depends on how many maintenance modules you have in orbit).

You know this from practice?

Ok, when did everyone learn what parasite meant before me? Are we talking about ships bigger then 500 tons?

Its been done.

CURRRSEEEESSSS!!!!!!!

I don't know how to set a ship as a parasite though.  If I did I wouldn't be hauling around my sentry guns one at a time to where they go.

EDIT: Nvm think I figured it out.  Just go into the ships screen and give it a mothership right?

And as far as I'm aware 'parasite' is just a catchall term for ships that land within another ship.

Same way a good portion of the players posting have learned majority of everything before you.

Don't even say it's from experimenting...unless there is a definition somewhere in the game. Parasite is a name. I could make assumptions but there will always be doubt if it is right or not.

Yes it is, and inference.

Built ships with hangar decks, messed with the mostership button found out how to work it. I was confused by fighters, as I missed the fighter screen and thusly didnt know about the making squads, but yea experimenting and inference for this one.

Could someone link me to a tutorial that isn't vague and actually tells me how to do what it's telling me to do?

Yea. It's expensive mineral-wise, though. Since you have to pay maintenance on the maintenance ships as well as the other ships. I have 10 20,000 ton maintenance ships with 2000 ton maintenance limits which maintain my fleet on an asteroid in a distant sector where I have no colonies present (no suitable worlds). For the maintenance ships alone it costs me roughly 1700 minerals a year, and my warships cost me about 450 minerals each per year. Stationing a large fleet there can really suck up resources, but I use mass drivers and automated mines on other asteroids and a few low gravity worlds (too low for colonizing, but a few resources there) to keep the facility stocked.

Best available.

Nah, i asked on the forums, they said the one on the wiki is the same as the one on the forums.

Just keep asking questions, best way to learn the game.

LOSING IS FUN!

Experiment, try stuff out. Lose. Build experimental ships, try them out.

I built an equal number of mass drivers on Earth and Mars, and Earth is sending resource packets to Mars, but Mars isn't recieving them. They aren't showing up in the "Mass driver +/-" part of the mining information.

What am I doing wrong?

I don't like to lose where magma isn't involved >_>

If someone has a question don't tell them "I don't like you asking questions", ignore it and move on.

as for the mass drivers, on the system map you should see the mineral package. and the mass driver section of the mineral screen is recent. So try shortening the time increments when the packet is about to reach mars.

Probably nothing.

The mass drive que doesnt stay for longer and it gets added to the stores of the planet, that will be hard to tell apart if you have mines on mars.

In the ming tab for the sending colony, does the mass driver destination have the desired planet located?
