I love how Terry Pratchett inspires people to speak in odd ways that allow a fan to recognize another.

Dog eating is not illegal in the US, people just think you're weird if you do.

Indeed.

And actually, I think you're right Barbarossa, it's rather the selling of meats of animals that have developed a strong emotional connection to the majority (common pets, basically) that is illegal.

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

"White people"??!?

That's quite racist. We "white people" can do that shit, too. The French are pretty white, and the stuff they eat... Although I fancy some gooseliver or Zwezerik (Thymus or Sweetbread, a gland found in pre-puberty mammals) myself. Like that:

Ah, and we find a non-fan.

He was quoting a Terry Pratchett novel, another comment meant to be taken in jest.

I always light my cigarettes with camel-dung.
My "racist" comment wasn't an accusation as such, it was more a hook/bridge to a "look we have weird stuff next door we don't need to go to asia for that"-statement.

If you look up what we ate while we were populating what would become Canada and the USA you would see that we in fact ate a wide assortment of creatures such as Squirrls at a somewhat regular basis.

What happened however is we developed certain taboos with eating certain animals (mostly against local animals)

In many ways we are the crazy ones. Why did we even develop these taboos in the first place?

I have eaten quite a few somewhat uncommon animals.

Elk, mountain goat, antelope, crawfish are fairly standard though regional.

I have also eaten squirrel, alligator, turtle. They are a bit more rare, but not all that weird.

I think the only really odd things I have eaten are snake, eel (fresh eel can still twitch after several minutes of frying) and gar ( gar are all bone, the only practical way to eat one is as a fishy broth ).

I ate duck once...

Although I do have a friend who can legally eat swan in England.

Actually an English monarch awarded a Cambridge college the right to eat swan, and it just so happens to be the one that he goes to.

Despite being Korean I've never actually had dog (something I actually want to try), though my mother tells stories about neighbourhood dogs going missing around holiday time.

Has anyone noticed that people never seem to bemoan the eating of Lamb, but oftentimes protest veal?
