The pigs were honest once too.

Nah, one of them started training dogs as a personal military force to seize the farm like 10 pages in. He was never honest. Some of the others were, but they were driven out or killed.

In all seriousness, communism is unnecessary. Post-scarcity democracy with good enough healthcare works just as well and has less potential for abuse. That's not to say that the kneejerk reaction to anything resembling communism[Government providing basic necessities] should be "DAMN RED COMMIES" or similar, but communism doesn't have the best track record. Its the reverse of Wikipedia.

Now what if we had computers run a communistic system
If you can do this, you are a wizard and presumably rolling in wealth gained on the stock market.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Not to mention that the sort of computer that would be required for such a thing would require so great a degree of connectivity to every possible place money could be spent that real security would be nigh-impossible and it would be hacked within a few hours.

Now what if we had computers run a communistic system and have honest people keep checks on the systems to make sure it's keeping within reason?
Would that at least make small interconnected trading towns being communistic, feasible?
Something like this is totally feasible... if you could develop a learning AI good enough to be able to predict needs, wants, and returns for everything within a desired tolerance. Of course at that point you've basically cracked one of the holy grail problems of computer science, and we've probably got other things to start thinking about. (Like the fact that such a program could probably let you take over the world without too much difficulty :P).

Its simply a quite predictable plan. Everybody wants to take over the world, if only for the sole purpose of having nobody higher on the ladder than they, and therefore not having to follow anyone else's orders.

No, I come into this thread only to spread comfort given to me by friend computer, and I find you in here flailing your tongue... Wait, I'm stronger than you.

* MaximumZero hoists IcyTea by his belt loops and collar, and carts him off for reeducation.

Anyway, I'm doing that thing again, where I update my LP and immediately feel like I've made a huge mistake and everyone will hate it.
