put cup of water in microwave for one minute, steep tea with small plate over top of cup while doing other stuff. How would you not have time for that?

Thread getting locked like every five days now. ..

this one or the females in games thread? because that thing gets locked every day. ALWAYS when I am furiously typing out a response.

There was that pingponging argument someone and someone were having. Theres probably a number of reasons why it got locked, from the lengthy derail to the heated argument.

-snip-

I feel that sadly, that derail is necessary to build a foundation upon which to argue the actual topic. The two subjects are intrinsically linked. The other problem I didn't understand.

I did suggest to maybe try and broaden the thread title to include that derail topic. Expanding the genres being looked at might also help.

well pisskop would have to do that. Honestly, I'm a little fearful of what officially expanding it would bring. If people unintentionally stumble upon a broader discussion its less toxic than people seeing that is what it will be about right out front.

We already had someone in there trolling and dodging an account ban.

I meant scrap using my expensive delicious tea
I can still probably use the cheap crap but I was looking forward to brewing a nice cup of green tea

Nope nope nope, communicate by PM or wait for the thread to unlock or something, but don't cross-contaminate threads. It's not as hard and fast a rule as the Rage thread but it's still pretty strong, especially when you're mentioning other members by name, which just begs a response and ultimately derails a new thread unless you're muttering about somebody with superhuman willpower who can thereby choose not to reply. I hate amateur moderating like I'm doing right now, I just hate it less than threads getting locked.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

okay I edited my post. I have watched threads fall like dominoes to cross-contamination.

Thank you I love you both for that. Sorry to have to be a jerk about it.

I was reading XKCD, and that put me onto the Fermi Paradox- Which just made me realize that we're ephemeral and will die as an entire race.

I'm actually incredibly worried that all of the sci-fi tropes we currently have (teleportation, FTL travel) are actually completely impossible unto physics, and therefore we will never escape this solar system- meaning that what we're doing to our planet is actually a one-way ticket to our own doom.

Yeah, he's a banned spammer. Normally we'd delete this thread too, but people were having too much fun with it by the time we got here.
