I don't really think it's fishing, for the most part. Probably just complaining to vent it out of the system.

Sometimes I come into this thread and am either saddened at the state of lives or horrified at tragic events. Unfortunately I am far more often annoyed at angst, worried about attempted suicide or sickened because of fishing.
This is usually where I vent because I think I'm not judged.

I can see why people can get annoyed by the negativity here. I'll minimize my sads and lock all the past sads somewhere. Hopefully, by not thinking about it, I can get happier.

Been pretty happy this weekend, but that's a [Happy Thread] story. :D

I most often come here to try to help other people feel better. I expect the negativity, but try to bring a little positivity to their lives in the only way I can - being there for them and letting them know they're not alone in the world; letting them know that somewhere, somebody out there cares about what they're going through. Sometimes that can make all the difference in the world.

I quite agree. When I'm not making an ass of myself, I try to do something similar.

You could be right- although complaining and fishing usually look fairly different.
I don't mind the honest sads. Me being sad at their sads means I care. But some of it isn't honest, and the thought that some mightn't be gets to me.

This is usually where I vent because I think I'm not judged.
I'm a cynic, but I wouldn't make that assumption. There's two things I have an irrational dislike of on this forum- it's lurkers and people quoting my posts (or at least the opinionated/emotional ones). Both are because of judgement, and both I've been burned with before, many times.

Not that you shouldn't air your grievances here- that's the point of this thread. Just keep it in mind. People may want to use this information to try to hurt you. None of the regulars, almost certainly- but it's an open topic...

Yeah, he's a banned spammer. Normally we'd delete this thread too, but people were having too much fun with it by the time we got here.

I usually come here planning to help others, but most of the time I doesn't finish a post here and just give up.
The same goes when I'm planning to post my sad.

How does one tell if sads are honest or not? I've never really noticed "fishing", myself.
I come here to have a good whinge about things from time to time, I'm sorry if it can be annoying. :-\

(Much  meta-sadness.)

So I'm starting to feel that my grades are unsalvagable.

Going-to-fail unsalvageable or really-really-bad unsalvageable?

Well, so far my semester percentile puts my GPA at 2.9 to 3.1. And relative grading means that it's difficult to improve.
