It's even perfect here in Icehell Boone. Campus looks like a disturbed anthill from far away, and there are already people on the lawns selling stuff. I don't even know where they got all those food carts from.

Weather is absolutely freakin' GORGEOUS outside. Like, *perfect*.

And I'm stuck inside at a desk.  :'(
Weather going over seventy (E: And it's over 80. Nevermind.) fills me with naught but dread. The helltimes are coming, and there's no longer the blessed sanity of the fifties and sixties between it and me.

Tell court something; ignored by court; get yelled at for not saying.... Thank you Mrs. Court Reporter. Your nimble, furiously typing fingers have saved me repeatedly. Also, I am jealous of your outfit. [sigh].

Depressed. Life is harder without alcohol in some instances, less so in others. Go figure.

Standard routine has officially reached rigmarole status. Tell client law; client ignores it/forcibly suggests alternative; inform client of law again; client shouts louder, believing that will help somehow; once again inform of situation. Get looked at like I'm stupid; silently screaming on the inside.... This is not Burger King and I'm pretty sure this particular judge, being so old he can't be reelected because of age limits, has stopped giving a crap about aaaaaaaanything and will tell you exactly what he thinks of you if you don't calm down. Still not calming down? Fabulous. Get yelled at by judge? Blaming me for that? Wondiferous.... Positively, absolutely only able to be described by sounds that are not words. Everybody's a legal expert....  ::) O my, your mom told you something? Then it must be true! I'll tell the judge right away and he'll laugh so hard you'll be acquitted. [slight breath] no....

Vector,

In re dating. I feel for you. I've been there and sorta am there now. It's nuts. There's no way around it. [hug]

I cannot read what the guy I am dating is thinking, at all. I am very simple. Care about me, hold me, and love me. That's ... that's mostly it. [shrugs].

Fine, I'll cut to the chase.  I am in a very bad position in terms of dating because the atheists think I'm a moron and the religious folk seem to think I'm bound for hell or to be converted, and a great many people don't understand the idea of "I am a theist and I refuse to affiliate.  With anything."

Thus far, I have dated: atheists.  I am scared of dating a: Catholic, because the: internet talks a whole lot of smack about how people of different faiths cannot know each other fully blah bah blah wouldn't it be great if your partner converted.  And I think the person is interested, because he is sure as heck acting kind of interested, and I'm scared.  My mom was raised Serious Catholic; my father was raised Serious Lutheran; neither of them converted and I have never heard them dispute religion once; I'm still scared.

So there.  That's why I'm shouting about religion in the sad thread.  Because I'm scared and I've never thought making my heart submit to unemotional reason (i.e. telling it to stop falling in love) was a positive, therefore I feel stupid.

If it helps any, current Catholic doctrine (IIRC, this was one of John Paul II's big causes) is one of adopting the good from all other faiths, even when you disagree or outright oppose core tenets of that faith. If the Church can embrace the works of Hindu philosophy (and, official doctrine says that they should) despite Hinduism conflicting with the whole "one god" thing, then someone who is fundamentally certain a god exists, but is unable or unwilling to quantify things beyond that (which is my understanding of the point of view you expressed upthread, I apologize if this is inaccurate or insulting) should be acceptable. Of course, the American branch of the Catholic Church has absorbed, in places, a great many Protestant concepts that the Church does not preach, though they are not exactly contrary to doctrine, such as Young Earth Creationism and Biblical Literalism.

Huh.  Thanks, Shonus, and everyone else--and a hug for Truean.  I kind of thought things must have been getting more lax because I no longer see faithful people covering their heads or genuflecting every time they cross the altar.  Hurm.  Stuff is weird.

My fiancee is a theist (sort of; it's complicated) and I'm perfectly fine with it. I'm agnostic and don't share her beliefs but that doesn't get in the way.

I don't think people should always respect religious beliefs no matter what (that's ludicrous), but there are plenty of harmless beliefs out there. I'm totally cool with Deist-esque ones, for example.

Anyway Vector, just go and ask him about it. Don't trust "what the internet says." They generalize. Your potential boyfriend's opinion is his own; that doesn't imply anything good or bad, but it does mean you can't presume things.

EDIT: Misappropriated the target of this. Corrected.

But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Dayum, Truean, it's posts like these that make me wonder why people get into law in the first place. Sounds like a job where everyone hates you all the time, even your fellow business partners.

It finally started getting warm here in Indiana, and I'm already uncomfortable.  Bring the frozen tundra back.  It's so much easier to get warm than to stay cool :(

Why don't you pay a criminal to frame you? So the lawyer can feel nice about defending a person who isn't guilty?

The marketing is finally working? Do not do that part about committing a crime.

In other news.... I miss this guy I'm dating. Damn. It. I don't get attached to people! Grah.... I need to quit feeling feelings. Damn it feelings, how did you survive being locked in the trunk and thrown in the ocean? I'm pretty sure there was a thick chain and a combination lock keeping that thing closed and weighed down on the seafloor.
