Sometimes the best satire is the one that punches you in the gut with no warning.

The Onion manages to channel the spirit of Swift, Voltaire, Vonnegut, and Hunter S Thompson with insight into human nature.

One of those stressful days, where every plan you make gets turned aside at the last minute. Luckily, it's not been anything I can't afford to miss; mostly plans with friends, and things I've been meaning to take care of. Still, through a combination of places being closed this weekend, a healthy dose of bad luck, friendship drama, general impoverishedness, and other assorted crap, nothing has seemed to go right today.

Now what I have to look forward to is a big empty evening filled with nothing but stress left over from repeated would-have-beens. It's also uncomfortably hot inside and out, and there's a limit to how little clothing I can wear in a house with roommates. There's always tomorrow, but Bleh nevertheless.

My parents just won $1,000 gambling.  I wonder how much they've lost in total.

Saw Cataclysm, tried to download it, have no idea how to make it run even with instructions. Why do some people feel the need to use obscure file types? What's wrong with making the setup be unzipping a .exe file, like with almost every other roguelike I've ever played?

Only now do I realize how deep in the medication hole I really am. I'm sitting here, at 4 AM, Sunday. I found myself without medicine for the day because of a tracking slip up on my part, and the place where I get refills was closed. Without this medicine I am incapable of sleep.

You want to know how incapable?

I took a small pill 6 hours ago that can cause a more sensitive person to fall asleep within a minute or less, BAM just like that.

I'm exactly as awake as I was when I took it. That is what medication will do to you. Though, in many ways my life would be a lot worse without it...

Hey, I went off my meds a few moths ago, and I'm doing just as well as when I was on them. The only downside is sometimes I get a bit of insomnia.

Good on you. A lot of people get off scott free. I'm come off two of my medications completely recently and been fine. But there's one, for my mental disorder that makes me kill everyone jerk my muscles and make funny noises, that when I DON'T take it I don't get to sleep. Coming off of it I'm saving for a year from now, and it's gonna be painful.
