In my case, it was lots of hiking as a kid. Since I was so light and had a high metabolism to boot, I could hike 5 miles through the woods (and had plenty of woods around to do so) without even thinking about it. Upper-body strength has always been pathetic, but it's gotten better from repeatedly having to lug small children around.

@Aqizzar: Amen, bro. If I get pants that are long enough, they expect my waist to be about 6 inches bigger than it is. The distinct lack of an ass used to be a problem too.

Totally.

And belts just somehow feel awkward because I have tons of folds then.

Not really sad, but more like scared as shit, but I had a nightmare. :O But it makes me sad because now I can't sleep and I continue my cycle of sleeping at 10am and waking up at 7pm. :\

This is why I prefer things with elastic waistbands. It's just easier.

I never liked belts because they were a physical reminder of how freakin' skinny I was--because I had to hand-punch new holes into the belt to find one that would be tight enough.

Indeed.  If I don't want to be constantly tugging my pants back up in public without walking bowlegged, I have to wear Comfort Fit 30-34 jeans with a belt (and 30-inch anything is getting damn hard to find in Fatmerica).  The belt makes the waistline look like a pleated skirt, and it's jacked up like a zoot suit, while the hips look like M.C. Hammer pants but that ain't dead air in there.

Personally, I find the best belts to be the ones that are lots of thin interweaved strips, because then the whole thing is holes.  They're not supposed to be "formal", but fuck that noise, my pants falling off or being tied off like a tourniquet is even less formal.

Best belt I own is a cheap one I found in a Chinese street market. The design doesn't use holes, it has a long series of grooves on the inside of the belt, and a metal tab that can "catch" on a groove and be easily depressed to adjust the belt, kind of like an adjustable zip tie. Simple, elegant design and it makes the entire damn length of the belt usable.

But then, it figures that China would be a better place for me to buy clothes, given that I'm an "Extra-Large" by Chinese clothing standards. They be some tiny peoples.

EDIT: Hey! Whaddya know, I found a YouTube video demonstrating the belt I was talking about.

Hey, quick question: Is it just me, or are almost all Chinese women under 25 perpetually cheerful and happy? Like, constantly smiling, and when they frown it's an adorable hyperbolic expression on their part?

It's a cultural thing. That's how young women are depicted in pop culture, so that's what a lot of them try to do, especially if they're mugging for the camera.

When they've just bombed an exam and are sitting across from you at a bar table with a bottle of Jack in front of them....it's not adorable.

She might just be a happy person. Who is also Chinese.

Or she might just be thinking fondly of how she's going to sneak into your room one night and harvest your organs. Ya never know.

That sounds oddly like every single time I got held back in high school. Only with a kitchen table and an extra bottle.

She is a very social person, always surrounded by her friends, and by all accounts she is always smiling.

Obviously she represents all Chinese people and it's safe to say they're all like that.

Does she smile in the shower?
