I believe it got deleted for a reason.

Such as the "No porn" rule?

Also, what's an H-bomb? Is it related to the F-bomb?
Hydrogen bomb, I think.

Do what? Discussing percieved issues.
We're not allowed to speak our minds any more?

And the H-bomb is, when somebody makes a Hitler reference to something somebody did or said, at which point the thread inevitably goes up in flames.

VN was full of a lot of stuff, some of it good, some of it bad.
There was a project to archive the stuff deemed good awhile back, but it didn't get too far.
All in all, it's just a part of forum history that seems a bit like Vietnam.
Some people won't stop talking about it and everyone else is ready to move on.

Some rules are forum-wide, I think. Hell, even /b/ had some rules even in the old days.
This is what we get for never reading ToS...

Well, the reason given for the ban wasn't their oppininons, but the manner in which they went out and broadcast them. You don't do stupid stuff like organize "dogpiling", then go ahead and claim you've outgrown that phase while still supporting people in trouble with the mods.
You sit your ass down and wait for the shitstorm and hail of bans to pass.

Oh for God's sake, now what?

I'm going to put my foot down on Toady's side, for a specific reason.  He and his brother, mostly himself as far as I can tell, have to read every single moderation report, and read up on the thread in question, before he can make a decision.  Toady claims to take notes on what he finds, and we know from his actual work that he's detail-obsessed enough that I believe him on that.  One of his possible choices is "Do nothing", one I'm willing to bet he takes more often than he'd ever mention.  But at some point, when he starts to see the same names coming up often enough, whatever they might look like in any one post, eventually he'll feel the need to make a call.

Dasleah got banned because he was an ass.  A lot of people liked him, because he was an entertaining and creative ass.  But Toady's one real rule, the one he mentions at every opportunity, is be cool.  In other words, don't be an ass.  And don't enable someone else to be an ass vicariously.  It's a pretty simple rule to follow, and yet every time someone gets banned for it, there's another parade of nuances and justifications.

I don't know or remember much of anything about what Mayday or Makrond or Retro got up to, although I certainly recognize them all instantly and I don't recall anything objectionable about them.  But I'm not a moderator, I don't keep up.  I do get the sense that Toady has been a bit trigger happy in recent months, as if his patience or concern is wearing thin.  But he thinks it was warranted, I'll take him at his word, because keeping up with reports is what he does.  Was banning some otherwise reasonable person too harsh compared to whatever the specifics were?  Maybe.  Here's an idea: don't leave any room for doubt or confusion.  How?  Don't be an ass, and don't help anyone else be an ass.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=dog+pile
Kinda; I'm using the term as quoted from Retro, so I can only infer its meaning.
It's most likely the idea of entering a discussion with nigh-identical PoVs on the issue in a coordonated effort between the dogpilers and presumably trying to win by weitght of numbers. Most of this is guesswork, so I'm likely a bit far from things.

@AoD and mnjiman: Carying on their argument on their behalf, thus acting as a loudspeaker for the banned person, is usually seen as circumventing the ban. AFAIK, Dasleah trolled the "Things that made you X" threads into banning himself simply because he didn't like they existed. Toady says there is precedent for Dasleah using the other three as relays, something Retro more-or-less admitted on his own.
I'm not sure on the details, since I've only recently become active, and have no knowledge of the Lower Boards' history.

Really? He tells you to and you just do it?
Even if it's totally unjustified?

Wow, this would be the ideal point for somebody to drop the H-bomb in this thread.

I'm afraid I'm not really getting you. Do what?

Edit: Ninja Legions...

Hi I share an opinion.
If Retro, Markond and Captain Mayday were warned in PM to stop posting or they would face being banned, then I will agree with the actions taken by Toady.
I have disagreed with what has been said simply because the major issue these people have brought up is the lack of moderation. It is just confusing for me that they themselves would have had moderated actions taken agaisnt them while as the same time expressing there concerns that they are not being moderated.

Lastly,
I am in the Mirc channel myself a good portion of the time. I am one of the OPs in the channel. I am active a lot of the time so I have time to read a lot of what people talk about. I have seen how Dasleah acts, and somtimes its understandable why its possible he was banned on the forums. Retro and Mayday on the otherhand... no i dont understand it.

Oh and this WHOLE idea that they were active as "relays" is completely false. I have never ever seen them talk to each other about Dasleah relaying information through anyone.  From what I have seen their opinions differ pretty greatly, and anything that has been said its under there own free will.

This whole idea of people active as relays is completely false.

Are we no longer able to have freewill?

I was thinking more along the lines of this legendary champion, all clad in dented and dinged up steel plate, his blood-drenched axe slung over his back, a notch in the handle for every enemy that saw the swing of that blade as the last sight they ever saw, a battered shield strapped over his arm... and a fluffy, pink stuffed hippo hidden discretely in his breastplate.

An organized protest I believe.
Which is utterly ridiculous.

I've been there all the time. I've seen its beginning and even was a small part of it. I've seen it end.
Of course, this accusation makes it easier to live in denail, to discard the arguments without even giving them a thought.
