Nah, everyone dying made perfect sense. Now you don't have those nagging "where the heck were all these dudes during the original trilogy" questions floating around, and it perfectly explains why, as of A New Hope, the Rebel fleet seems to be made up of just a bunch of starfighters; everything else they had available had either booked it ahead of time or had been thrown at their one chance to uncover the Death Star's plans.

A day like many others, I was walking my fearless, superconfident pinscher, a couple of blocks away from home. Now, she's a deeply curious dog, people-curious especially; she just stares at passersby, all intense-eyed, ears forward, something that can be very unnerving to folks for a variety of reasons. The only way to snap her out of it is to either have her target satisfy her curiosity, or to not make a big deal out of it and keep walking.

Thus, she was pointing to some woman with a stroller on the side of the road, slightly behind us; I didn't think too much of it, without even looking I kept walking forward, but she wasn't budging. So I looked up to see what was keeping her attention, and I finally noticed. It wasn't a stroller, but a wheelchair; not a baby, but an 85+ years old looking emaciated man (in hindsight not surprising, this was in front of a small clinic/nursing home).

The look on his face... he was just so happy. A husk of a man, possibly not even all there mentally, yet breaking slowly into such a genuine smile at my dog, which was in turn tilting her head peering at him. The sheer joy and contentment in his eyes and his toothless smile, transcending everything in the present.

I know, it's such a small thing, very open to interpretation. But if I read the situation right, also one of the purest moments I've ever witnessed.

I don't know if this made his Christmas, but it sure made mine.

I am happily sitting at my computer with a 'no I will not fix your computer' t-shirt, a new desk fan, and my dog is merrily ripping her new stuffed squirrel toy to shreds.  Hope you all had equally good loot.

Oh and peace on earth and all that jazz.  (But I'm sure we all know that the holiday has been mostly about the loot ever since advertisers got a hold of it.)

Making a Yule Feast. Brussel Sprouts, sweet potato, stuffing, cranberries, and green bean mushroom onion casserole. Just stuffed a turkeys butt with vegetables and fruit, and encrusted it in herbs and butter. Smells so good!

Having a good old time, and looking forward to sharing it with some of my favorite people!

That was a solid Christmas. I managed to stay drunk pretty much all day!

Had some good chats with people, too. And listened to plenty of metal in the garage, where most of my drinking was done, and even found time to watch some Seinfeld. Hangover's not too bad, either- I feel a bit wretched but mostly just tired. Oh and I'm pretty sure I have a date sometime this week, but that's more a subject for the Terrified Thread. >.>
