Watched Oblivion again (Sky has it on Sky Premier! Yay!).

I like the film. It also has Morgan Freeman, who is one of my favourite actors.
Yeah it's nice to see Tom Cruise devoting himself to science fiction.

He did that long ago, he's a Scientologist after all.
War of the Worlds, anyone?

Heh. Just remembered an argument which broke out over youtube about whether Tripods or ME Reapers were more terrifying.
Silly inflammatory people.
Obviously Reapers because all you have to do is sneeze on a Tripod and it'll just go "OH NO, GERMS! *dead*"
In all seriousness Tripods could barely be taken out with late 30s tech, (or mid 2000s if you're going with the remake) and Reapers could barely be taken out with far-future tech. Plus there were a helluva lot more Reapers than Tripods, (the martians in WotW only had enough of a force to invade a single planet, while the Reapers had a force big enough to invade an entire galaxy) so it's kind of obvious who's more threatening.

Finally secured enough dosh to go out and pick myself up a book of beautifully translated ancient Chinese poems that I've been itching to get my hands on for weeks now. I've really only just begun to delve into its contents, but I swear, every single page I've read thus has been a sexy little morsel of wisdom and wonder:

"Sent as a present from Annam—
A red cockatoo.
Coloured like the peach-tree blossom,
Speaking with the speech of men.
And they did to it what is always done
to the learned and the eloquent.
They took a cage with stout bars
and shut it up inside."

GodDAMN that is some fine-ass literature.

'Translations from the Chinese', by Arthur Waley.

It's an older book. The one I picked up is the 1941 revised/illustrated edition. Cost me around 35 bucks, and I can already say with complete confidence that it was worth every cent.

If you do, make sure it's cheese curd and not 'proper' cheese. Seriously, poutine with 'proper' cheese on it is disgusting.

As someone who genuinely would like to eat this some day, any advice on where I might be able to find curd rather than fully finished/processed cheese? Given I live in the states and I wouldn't even know where to start looking for this. Or even how exactly I should prepare poutine.

You don't buy it. Unless you go to an indian store or something. You make it yourself.

Bring milk to a boil, and stir in either calcium lactate, if you can get it, or lemon juice, and the milk will separate into curd and whey. Then you dump the whole thing into a strainer or cheese cloth. After that, you can either use it fresh, or keep it like that in the fridge for a while so it becomes hard and cuttable.

The alt text there is pretty great, too. I should probably go look up north and see if (how many) folks have gotten around to building functioning shark traps...

Here's hoping, again, that the next update adds enough pathing functionality underwater construction becomes viable~

Then you could just plain cage sharks or whatev'.

You obviously don't live in Ontario. :P

You can get good curd in pretty well any grocery store or gas station convenience store around here.

Edit: Wait of course you don't live in Ontario you're not even in Canada how did I forget this.

Going out at 6am for valentines day fun is great. Went to eat breakfast at a restaurant I like, got some chocolates (We ate them all already), and I finally got to shop around a bit to see if I can replace my severely aged hammer. Didn't find anything I liked but it was nice getting around to doing that considering I'm pretty sure that thing is gonna snap sometime while I'm metalworking.

I also managed to use my recent early bird habits over the past few days to make a few silly little presents for the two most important women in my life. I remember seeing iron/steel roses a few times and I was happy to see they weren't as hard to make as they looked. And thanks to some oil my daughter helped me find they smell just like the real thing too.

Just got a phone call from a friend in Nepal I've not heard from for frickin' months. He was drunk out his face but god damn it was good to hear he's doing well.

Also made my wife cry (in a good way) with an analogy about my love by referring to Super Mario Bros., which I was going to use in my speech when we got married but chickened out. Much pleased.

Badass gift choice, I heartily approve.

I wish a happy Valentines day to you all, I'm off to make myself some pancakes... or maybe some waffles.
