Damn it Steam, selling me quality games at low prices.

I love you.

Let's face it guys: Steam is more pleasant than pirating stuff, and still pretty dang cheap.

HOW DO THEY GET AWAY WITH THIS

I really don't like steam. It seems to never install something properly and it usually crashes mid-download for me.

I am not entierly unconvinced that Valve has not made a blood pact with Those Who Lay Beyond The Stars, but I have no proof other than their crazy selling power. For example, somehow making profits everytime they do things like dropping TF2's price down to a few cents.

Considering six million people use it, it's probably a problem on your end.

Steam is great, I just wish I could play games without it running in the background because that does nothing for my performance. But it's mostly my fault for running Linux on a crappy computer and still trying to play Steam games.

I haven't been downloading anything since I upgraded my shitty connection. So, my old connection may have been the problem.

Or Valve hates him for some reason, either one is possible.

OH LAWD, I did this once. Don't do it guys. I don't care what it takes, if your connection to Steam is through "emulating" it on *nix, you're better off doing anything else.

Honestly I still wonder why people try to run games in Linux. If you're using it just because you don't want to use windows you're doing it wrong.

You know, linux could be a climax for pc gaming, trash software layers and go straight to hardware, yea we would own consoles.

One word: Audiosurf.

It beckons to me like you don't even know.

Otherwise I like that I'm not able to play most games, since it means I can use my computer for more productive things like reading Wikipedia and posting on forums.

Honestly I still wonder why people try to run games in Linux. If you're using it just because you don't want to use windows you're doing it wrong.

Only case scenario I can think of: I have a really crappy netbook. My Windows installation is already so slow that playing Minecraft is normally okay on it, but playing on my friend's server is unbearable. It's more bearable when I just start Minecraft straight from the .jar on my already speedy Linux installation. Don't ask me why, I'm fully aware of how ridiculous that is given that both cases are of the same game running in the same sort of Java virtual machine.

I'm going to out and out say I fail at being a geek becouse I have no idea exactly what Linux is, I know it's an operateing system for computers, and thats about it.

LINUX IS THE BEST MAAAAN hey want me to hook you up with what im smoking oh yeah now you're talking

Jokes about my counter culture city aside here it is:

1) You have a computer. Your computer has hardware.
2) Your computer does not actually do much of anything with this hardware without an "operating system".
3) Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac OS X are the most popular operating systems.
4) Linux is another operating system like Windows. It allows you to do the same kinds of things, but usually different specific things (for example, being built around the command line as opposed to Windows' GUI dependence)
5) The main thing that seperates it is that it is free and freely distributable and comes in different "distributions" like Ubuntu and Slackware unlike Windows where you just have "versions" like XP, Vista, 7.
