that dworf made me chuckle. a good image to start the day out.

*much later* we got ray type spells implemented, so in addition to head banging walls down, turning everything to magma, and spamming explosive sparks, i'd say this pyromancer is looking pretty dangerous.

the sprite in game is a bit rubbish, it obviously tiles, but i just had to whip something up in photoshop to depict my imagination of the final spell. Flame LASOR!!!!!

Is that a Pangolinman with a pick and tophat?

The way to do it if you want to become more skilled as a painter is to learn how to paint textures with a simple brush. Layering up fancy brushes can look nice (it often doesn't though) but in the end it is more like rubber stamping than painting.

I'm not saying fancy brushes and texture layers don't have any place ~ I'm warning against using them as a crutch when learning. Learning to understand texture and how to paint it is much more valuable and open ended.

Edit: A lot of the really great digital painters usually reserve and texture layers for the end, usually for tasks like making it look like it was painted on a piece of paper.

Using brushes is so much faster.  It will never look as good as proper texture painting, though.

Yep that is pretty much it. It usually sacrifices the cohesiveness of the painting unless the artist has mastered the subtle and careful use of texture brushes, which requires an understanding of texture and how to paint it in the first place.

A texture is actually a property of the object's form, so it can't really be faked.

Here is a good example of a painting, with a subtle texture applied at the last step.

Notice how all the textures of the fabric and furs are implied by the line work as an extension of rendering form.

The gold is started as a texture too but it isn't overwhelming.

Ok, this picture has a little story.

My twin brother is an "eccentric", and I havent seen him since maybe late May last year, anyways it was our birthday a while back and he desided to come over, and he was calm and doing nothing remarkable, but what he was wearing and how he looked wasnt.
