A doodle for the collab thread. I inked it too, and I think it turned out well considering I'm a novice at ink.

Both arms length put together = one full body height.

Excellent definition on the eye, the first and third not so much. The fourth is sort of in a different style, but it's done pretty well.

With the first, you want to make the person stand out more with actual outlines. As it is, he just sort of blends into the rest of the painting. With the third, he just isn't very defined at all. It's really your preference, I don't know if you have a specific reason you're doing it like that or if you have a look you're trying to achieve, but I think it would benefit a lot from a harder outline around the people. The eye is excellently done though :D

Spoiler: huge map (click to show/hide)

Working on a dungeoncrawl/mage murder simulator. I've got to add some more magmatile variations+add the water and void/pit tile. All of these sprites are 32^2, but the character and spell projectiles will be different. (not sure exactly, my coder buddy is just using his own standins for now)

If there is interest, I can post more stuff in its own thread perhaps.

spreggo, when the adaptive tiles get programmed in, the transitions will be much more natural. thats what i'm taking from your rather obtuse single link post. Currently I just draw a individual tile (magma, cobble, wall) and it chooses between however many variants i drew for them. (8 for cobble, 4 for magma, 8 for murk, so on so forth)

Sorry, I meant it to be helpful. That is only the first tutorial (the rest are linked at the end) in a series that is a useful resource for tile-based aesthetics. Didn't mean to be obtuse.

Derp, the positioning of your characters is great, in that the body shapes they take on look good to me.

I haven't posted in a while, so here you go:

Mandrake?  :o That has always been this guy to me. But it's obviously not what inspired these great characters.

I'm hoping you'll revisit the rightmost one. Interesting pose and a stylish hat, and what IS that in his left hand? A crossbow? :D
